did you really expect a 'yes' answer?
I almost said yes. But then decided to think a little longer about the question.
there are two sides (basically): pro-life, which advocates NO abortion, and pro-choice, which advocates the mother choosing whether or not to keep the baby. There is pretty much no legitimate side that advocates the abortion of ALL retarded babies.
See that's the difference between me and republicans. Although I may feel that the world may be better off without retards, I would never ever consider forcing my belief on others.
With such an emotionally charged situation you’re never going to change anybody’s mind. What people arguing for or against abortion really need to do, is to try to respect the other side, no matter how wrong you think they are and realize sometimes people just don’t agree. It will eat you up otherwise. You just have to accept that people are going to feel differently on this issue.
Recently a friend of mine had a baby that was diagnosed with a disease that keeps the brain from growing with the body. Some doctors said it would live to be a year old, others said it wouldnt live a day.
They both were wrong (the baby passed away after three days, and WAS NOT something that any mother should ever have to witness BUT she did have those three days with her and got to see her eyes...
I really don't think i could know the answer unless faced in the same situation. My instinct would say, yeah abort. Its hard enough for perfectly normal children in the world. It would all depend on the diagnosis i guess. After numerous numerous second opinions , i guess one just has to make an educated and caring choice.
god i love political humor
and next question. does a child with a learning, or developmental disability have less right to live than an adult who chooses to rape and abuse children ... or an adult who beats his own child so severely that child then ends up with brain injury and is therefore limited for the rest of their lives?
last question. who measures quality of life? you ? me? simple pleasures can be taken from what may seem mundane and unimportant to you.
Would the mother be in danger if the pregnancy was full-term and/or she gave birth?
There are more sides to this question than just yes or no on principle. My answer would depend on a complete assessment of an individual situation.

the OP didnt mention Down Syndrome...
retarded
# relatively slow in mental or emotional or physical development; "providing a secure and sometimes happy life for the retarded"
i think the OP was meaning more than just Down Syndrome kids... retarded is just catch all phrase.
Apples and oranges. Aborting a life that hasn't started is not the same as terminating a full grown one. As for when their life starts after birth, they certainly have a right to live, as do the child molester and other fucks like that.
Certainly, but it is essentially your own judgement on the matter that counts. Or at least that's the way it should be.
The issue is a tough one to call, and as such, I defer it to individual judgement, as with abortion in general. A solid case can be made either way of what is "right" to do. What I would do, I do not know. And frankly I hope I never have to consider it. But I deeply respect those that choose to go ahead anyway.
Peace
Dan

My gut reaction:
A 25 year-old single single woman who got pregnant kinda sorta by accident might answer this question differently than a 35 year old married woman who has been trying through years of painful IVF treatments to get pregnant.
What side of the aisle they vote on would not affect a decision in this case.
ahhh, it's getting awfully stuffy in here...
Says the guy with the username "Cuntified C."
Who cares what the word was actually means, or what intent the person actually used the word in.
I think we should all feel bad for CUNTified C that a word offends them.
I didn't want to change any minds. I just wanted them to know that after I read their reasons to abort these babies, I felt sick to my stomach. And the use of "retard" is just ignorant and childish, especially when actually talking about the mentally disabled.
the word 'retard' isnt really derogatory... its just been made out to be so... but its a proper word.
this is from a medical dictionary "The brain damage will retard the child's language development"
It's not an acceptable term in today's society. It's very obvious that people who think it is acceptable have never interacted with a person who has challenges.
it is if used properly. i disagree.

the US government is still using it in its correct context... but i know what you mean... its like the word 'gay' which was a normal word but now used in a derogatory fashion.
Move to Texas where it's legal. Governor Perry of Texas has no problem with aborting retarded fetuses or retarded or deformed children. Hell, they don't even need the parent's consent.
