Hunting..

I have to admit it is one of my favorite hobbies, but it is about being part of the river and the challenge, and nature. And Again, I generally don't keep what I catch when I do that. I use a tiny barbless hook so it doesn't do any damage to the fish.
Sometimes, I fish for big game fish like tuna, and then I keep it and eat the fish. For me, it's not about killing the fish. I figure fish are generally pretty simple animals, and I eat seafood anyway. So I don't have a moral issue with killing the fish myself and eating the meat. But as I said, usually I catch and release for sport.
That said, I could not kill a deer or bird.
I like to fish as well. Almost entirely catch and release. I haven't kept a fish in a couple of year, but I have kept them before. I think it's quite different from hunting.
Someone once put it this way - in fishing, at least the fish has a choice.
And if you let them go, there's really not a problem in my opinion. The only people we should try to get even with...

I hear you. Although, fly-fishing has started to turn me into more and more catch and release. I went backpacking a couple weeks ago and kept two fish for dinner, and I kind of felt guilty about it because they were such pretty fish.San Diego 10/25/00, Mountain View 6/1/03, Santa Barbara 10/28/03, Northwest School 3/18/05, San Diego 7/7/06, Los Angeles 7/9/06, 7/10/06, Honolulu (U2) 12/9/06, Santa Barbara (EV) 4/10/08, Los Angeles (EV) 4/12/08, Hartford 6/27/08, Mansfield 6/28/08, VH1 Rock Honors The Who 7/12/08, Seattle 9/21/09, Universal City 9/30/09, 10/1/09, 10/6/09, 10/7/09, San Diego 10/9/09, Los Angeles (EV) 7/8/11, Santa Barbara (EV) 7/9/11, Chicago 7/19/13, San Diego 11/21/13, Los Angeles 11/23/13, 11/24/13, Oakland 11/26/13, Chicago 8/22/16, Missoula 8/13/18, Boston 9/2/18, Los Angeles 2/25/22 (EV), San Diego 5/3/22, Los Angeles 5/6/22, 5/7/22, Imola 6/25/22, Los Angeles 5/21/24, [London 6/29/24], [Boston 9/15/24]0 -
nside20, I stay out of hunting threads too. I am a vegan, so I choose not to eat anything of animal origin, and obviously I don't hunt, but I found your post to be so respectful of your environment and the world around you. If all hunters were like you I think the world would be a way better place.R.i.p. Rigoberto Alpizar.

Hunting isn't hard nor is it a sport. I know, I've done my share... a long time ago. Killing animals is a piece of cake and that is why I don't do it. I prefer competition on a level playing field and hunting isn't it.Idaho's Premier Outdoor Writer
