It was violent porn, as the man heard a woman screaming for help. It wasn't a natural act of sex. You might be right about sex being more taboo than violence, but this article is not an example of that.0 -
I think we're a very odd society in that we try to sweep death under the rug, like its not a valid part of life.Kann wrote:Even though, he still is right, sex is a more taboo subject than violence. I don't know why though. I think seeing naked people is less damaging than dead ones, we all hope our children meet the first type in real life and never the second.

That was always my mom's theory for us when we were growing up. If a movie was rated R because of nudity, she didn't really care if we watched it (when we were about 13 or 14) but if it was violent, she wouldn't. I think she was probably right.you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane.0 -
Besides, pornography is not "natural sex" anyway. Porn sex is deliberately designed to be demeaning towards women. It usually places women into a submissive and berated role, adding to their objectification. According to studies on men who watch porn regularly, the more porn they watch, the more desensitized they become towards women.0

My theory on this, at least for the non ridiculous religious fringe?
Sex is not bad. Its easy to point to a violent murder on TV and say "This is a movie, never do this!" With sex, its not so cut and dry to explain to a child. Realistically, all children are going to eventually have sex as they get older, and most will do so in a somewhat irresponsible way at some point or another. By exposing it to them at an age they may not understand its much more complicated to explain when and why its okay sometimes, and not others.0 -

It's easy to explain. You do it when you're an adult and when you love someone. Don't do it at the wrong time or for the wrong reasons. If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.
Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.

Ideally, yes.
But even that is still more complicated then "DONT DO THIS!" when you see a gun fight
Dont do it at the wrong time- hell, im 26 and married im not 100% sure what is the wrong times and wrong reason every time. Procreate? Spread Love between 2 loving folks? I feel like getting laid?
Im not saying that its the right approach, but i think it pretty much explains why Violence is far more acceptable in society then sex in some respects.0 -

I give a reasonable explination, and its dismissed with a personal attack?
I dont have kids, and i dont neccesarily agree with the reason i stated above, but i think it explains WHY its that way in a lot of cases.0 -
Hey skitch, I agree with ya. I mean it's only really NOW that the media are starting to accept that kids are WAY to exposed to sex these days... I think sexualising kids is quite disgusting and the more kids see OF this type of behaviour, the more they behave a certain way. I certainly don't understand why anyone would let their kid go to a pussycat dolls concert :eek:Skitch Patterson wrote:My theory on this, at least for the non ridiculous religious fringe?

I'm not sure how to explain this correctly myself... but what I think I'm trying to say is that it's ok to be open and frank with your kids about sex and talk to them, but there's no need to let them actually see it. If you're going to let them watch it on tv, why not let them into your room? I think the same with violent scenes, WHY let them watch it? Why is it healthy to let them see it? I just don't get it. Kids THINK they are grown up these days, and they think they are grown up by being violent and having sex and it's a far cry from when I was a kid I tell ya :mad:The Astoria??? Orgazmic!
