A man says he broke into an apartment with a cavalry sword because he thought he heard a woman being raped, but the sound actually was from a pornographic movie his upstairs neighbor was watching

true...this story is humor. I just always pick up on the whole "sex vs. violence" and what's more acceptable in the good old USA. I am from Canada, and we'd have as many wackos as you if it weren't cold here 9 months of the year. Staying warm is more important than being a wacko.

It's hard to realistically recreate the sounds of a gunfight even with a decent home theater system. Guns are extremely loud and distinct.

Even though, he still is right, sex is a more taboo subject than violence. I don't know why though. I think seeing naked people is less damaging than dead ones, we all hope our children meet the first type in real life and never the second.

I know! People act as if they'd rather have children view death and violence than to see the natural act of sex. Both are mature subject matter but it just seems violence is accepted when it seems it should be considered worse.

it always struck me as odd that the original planet of the apes movie was rated g....it was pretty violent at times
    standin above the crowd
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
    eager to identify with
    someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way

He may be right, but we are all right every now and then. The difference is being able to use an appropriate analogy to illustrate that. If he wants to talk about america's indifference to violence, then he should be under some kind of obligation to illustrate that with an example that makes logical sense.

Nowhere in America can you get into a gunfight in your apartment and not have the cops called on you. If people want to make a point, they should do so without sounding like they really don't know reality from fiction. Saying that people don't call the cops when they think a gunfight is going on is fiction. It is not reality.

It was violent porn, as the man heard a woman screaming for help. It wasn't a natural act of sex. You might be right about sex being more taboo than violence, but this article is not an example of that.

I think we're a very odd society in that we try to sweep death under the rug, like its not a valid part of life.

    The violence part, I get.

That was always my mom's theory for us when we were growing up. If a movie was rated R because of nudity, she didn't really care if we watched it (when we were about 13 or 14) but if it was violent, she wouldn't. I think she was probably right.

Besides, pornography is not "natural sex" anyway. Porn sex is deliberately designed to be demeaning towards women. It usually places women into a submissive and berated role, adding to their objectification. According to studies on men who watch porn regularly, the more porn they watch, the more desensitized they become towards women.

and why does he have a cavalry sword?

My theory on this, at least for the non ridiculous religious fringe?

Sex is not bad. Its easy to point to a violent murder on TV and say "This is a movie, never do this!" With sex, its not so cut and dry to explain to a child. Realistically, all children are going to eventually have sex as they get older, and most will do so in a somewhat irresponsible way at some point or another. By exposing it to them at an age they may not understand its much more complicated to explain when and why its okay sometimes, and not others.

It's easy to explain. You do it when you're an adult and when you love someone. Don't do it at the wrong time or for the wrong reasons.
