State and federal authorities have converged on the home of a New Hampshire couple involved in a tax standoff.
People are being kept several miles away from the Center of Town Road in Plainfield, where Ed and Elaine Brown live. Neighbors, including some who have been evacuated, reported police SWAT teams, a helicopter and at least one armored vehicle converged on a field near the home Thursday morning.
Authorities have not said if they were moving in to arrest the fugitives
The Browns have been barricaded inside their home for several months, after being convicted of tax evasion. They did not even attend their sentencing hearing, in which they were sentenced to five years in prison. The couple has not paid their taxes in more than a decade and owe nearly a quarter of a million dollars in back taxes.
Elaine Brown once had her own dentist office in Lebanon.
Ed Brown says he is armed and has promised a Waco like ending, saying he will not be taken alive.

If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

I hope this won't have a Waco ending. I wish the guy luck. I love the sign he hung in his tree."I'll use the magic word - let's just shut the fuck up, please." EV, 04/13/080

Even though I don't agree, per se. I wish these two luck and my heart goes out to them. I completely understand how hard it is to stand up for your principles in our system. It can make you feels so tiny and helpless at times...and other times it's feels so bold and true to just take that stand, win or lose.If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

We need more people like this in America in order for real change to occur."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0

I thought about cracking that joke, too.

What part of their actions do you wish to see people emulating?mammasan wrote:We need more people like this in America in order for real change to occur.
1. Not paying taxes - gee, if we all did that the odds of having universal health care sure go down,
2. Getting in armed standoffs with authorities - what a waste of my tax dollars and it's just more money that can't be spent on people in need,
3. Being a danger to the public to such an extent that neighbours need to be evacuated - this level of care and compassion for others is not needed.
Basically these people are completely and utterly self-centered, without a care for society. I applaud anyone who has beliefs and lives by them, but please don't be so chicken shit that you can't peacefully face the consequences of your actions.“One good thing about music,

Yeah, I'm with you there. I wouldn't resort to violence and the use of guns, either. If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

He would be posting a hell lot more if he was barricaded inside his house. He's probably out buying wood, nails, a hammer and a life time's supply of food.THANK YOU, LOSTDAWG!

Then let's hope you are not a supporter of programs such as; education, welfare, medicare. These are all funded by tax dollars. Not providing these will just help to ensure that the rich stay rich, but maybe that's what you really admire.mammasan wrote:The not paying taxes part.“One good thing about music,

I'm not a supporter of a large Federal government creating programs it has no business adminstering, and growing itself to unmanageable proportions. I'm not a fan of our government's role as the world police force, and the cost that entails. I'm a supporter of a government that is smaller, spends less, and therefore taxes less. I'm a supporter of anyone who protests our runaway taxation for whatever reason (anti-war, anti-social spending, anti-Federal, etc...)"I'll use the magic word - let's just shut the fuck up, please." I don't support federal education programs. I also don't suppoprt an over bloated welfare and medicare program that is run with unbelievable ineptitude by our federal government. I don't agree with manditory taxation but due support voluntary taxation such as the Fair Tax plan.
I have nothing against programs to assist the under-priviledged I just don't want the federal government involved in it. If we took the money the fedral government takes from each of our paychecks and instead donated it to charitable organizations the funds would be better managed and I wouldn't have to worry about my tax dollars going to fund a bullshit war or some useless billion dollar bridge in Alaska."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0 -

Thank you. You stated it much more elequently than I did."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0 -
So you are against paying federal taxes but gladly pay state taxes. I hope you stay off the interstate highways though because I'm quite sure that people in Alaska didn't want to pay for it.mammasan wrote:I don't support federal education programs. Interstate highways are important to commerce and the economic well being of this country. I am against tax dollars being spent on pork barrell and ineptly mananged federal programs and over inflated defense budgets. I have nothing against state taxes because those funds go directly to the support of the state I live in. They go to the roads, infastructure, etc... of the state I reside in. That doesn't mean that my state's government doesn't need to trim a lot of fat. I don't believe, I will state it again since you seemed to miss it the first time I stated it, in the manditory taxation of the people. I support the Fair Tax proposal which is a voluntary tax. New Jersey, the state I live in, receives $.45 for every $1.00 in federal taxes we pay. 50% of my tax dollars go to benefit another state. Meanwhile this very state has dire needs that oit can not meet because of lack of funds."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0 -
