Cops do fine depending on where they are located.
As for firemen most of them sit on their ass all day which is why most FD are volunteer......unless their in nycAmerica...the greatest Country in the world.0 -
Neither do federal judges. That would be the legislative branch of government.miller8966 wrote:Most people in other occupations dont make the laws for millions of people.0 -

Tell that to a NYC police officer where the starting pay is about $35,000 a year. My brother-in-law graduated the academy 5 years ago, starting pay for a Newark police officer was $33,000 a year. $33,000 a year to work nights in the most crime infested neighborhood in Newark. My first job out of college I was making more than that to sit on my ass in front of a computer. And let's not even bring up education because to be a Newark police officer you either need an associates degree with accompanying military experience or a bachelors degree. Yes their are areas where you can earn a lot more, not at a starting salary their cap is just higher, but getting hired in those areas is nearly impossible. I know a few NYPD officers who have been waiting for years to get into Sussex County police force or the Port Authority police force. As far as firefighters every major city and reasonably sized town has a full-time fire department, every town in my area has a full-time department maybe out in the sticks it's volunteer, and while they may spend time sitting on their asses as you state they are the one's running into a burning building for a living."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0 -

If you're happy making what a ditch digger makes then become one. Why complain when someone wants more money for doing their job? We all want more money for doing our jobs. Why single out one person or profession?
.
This is a fairly common argument, but, to me it doesn't hold much water. If everyone became federal court judges, lawyers, doctors, etc., then who would dig our ditches, who would build our homes, who would grow our food?
You see it is the people who bust their backs building the country and keeping it running, that make the least money. It is the HARD working poor that keep this country running. If everyone opted out of those trades and occupations for high profile, low labor, grotesquely paid professions, who would keep the country going?
BTW, what does U2 have to do with any of this?"When all your friends and sedatives mean well but make it worse... better find yourself a place to level out."0 -

They don't either have the ability, drive or desire.cornnifer wrote:This is a fairly common argument, but, to me it doesn't hold much water. In this day and age it's a fairly straight forward process to figure out the lifestyle you want, the money required for said lifestyle then to look for an area of study that will provide you with the job to support the lifestyle you want.
Everyone keeps this country running. No one is more important int the process than anyone else. Some jobs are more prestigious and some pay more. I'd say about 99.5% of the people I know have the income and lifestyle they desire based on the work they want to do and the effort they'll put in at the job and into achieving the job. The .5% who aren't where they should be is due to making a career choice they are not suited for and can never excel at regardless of their work ethic.
The people I hear bitch about their circumstances are the ones who make the most excuses for why their not doing what they should to achieve what they want.“One good thing about music,

Actually its less....i believe its at 28 now. But anyway it depends on the area.
Starting pay in tenafly is alot different than starting pay in NYC, and also the topping out is different ( tenafly can top out at 125).
But more thinking is involved with being a federal judge than being a cop...hence they hould make more.America...the greatest Country in the world.0 -

I never stated that a judge shouldn't make more than a cop. That's not my arguement at all. I simply stated that if any civil servant deserves any type of salary hike it should be the cops, fire fighters, and soldier before the judges."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0 -

It's an inside joke
u2 does regular charitable concerts for good causes
when jon roberts, a man probably more wealthy than all of us on this board bitches for the sake of other extremely wealthy people or wal mart complains of unfair business practices (ie itunes and movies) when they have conspired to control world markets
I sort of wink and say
oh, those poor millionares and billionares better get U2 to do a benefit concert for them...
okay I didn't say it was a funny joke.
But people, we gotta stay focused here. I never said that federal Judges weren't worth the money they are paid. But I think it's yet another example of the hirearchy in this country
the rich get speak for the rich and the poor have no voice.
I thought they were working for us.
also, I could be wrong, but I think in four pages of this thread, the word "teacher" has not yet been mentioned
