WASHINGTON - A study by two nonprofit journalism organizations found that President Bush and top administration officials issued hundreds of false statements about the national security threat from Iraq in the two years following the 2001 terrorist attacks.

The study concluded that the statements "were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses."
The study was posted Tuesday on the Web site of the Center for Public Integrity, which worked with the Fund for Independence in Journalism.
White House spokesman Scott Stanzel did not comment on the merits of the study Tuesday night but reiterated the administration's position that the world community viewed Iraq's leader, Saddam Hussein, as a threat.
"The actions taken in 2003 were based on the collective judgment of intelligence agencies around the world," Stanzel said.
The study counted 935 false statements in the two-year period. It found that in speeches, briefings, interviews and other venues, Bush and administration officials stated unequivocally on at least 532 occasions that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction or was trying to produce or obtain them or had links to al-Qaida or both.

Whenever I read news like this I instantly think about Nineteen Eighty-Four. We're getting there, or we're already there, it's just more subliminal, more implicit.THANK YOU, LOSTDAWG!

...for 2 reasons...
1.) the admin/military was embarrassed as hell about 9/11/01
2.) the admin needed a war-time president to get re-elected. they needed a sustained war campaign to last through the elections to distract the American public.
3,000 dead soldiers later...there is no end in sight. pathetic.I love to turn you on0 -
It surprises me that it took this long for something like this to come out. Those of us who have original thoughts and actually use our brains knew this was the fact from day one.
None of the candidates this time around light my fire either. It'll be like trying to decide between a shit burger cooked well and a shit burger cooked rare. UGH.I'll ride the wave where it takes me.0 -
and why haven't there been any impeachment hearings?
could it be because the entire federal gov't is complicit at some level?
at what point to we say enough is enough? we give these people 40% of our money to lie, cheat, steal, and kill.. and we're ok with that?i'm more a fan of popular bands.. like the bee-gees, pearl jam0 -
And.. these are the SAME people who have expanded the powers of the Federal Government, specifically, the Executive Branch... who are listening in on your phone conversations... and keeping a database on your activities. Just look at the cast of characters in this whole mess... Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Rove, Rice, Chalibi, Gonzales, Miers...
It's not paranoia... it is reality. Ask yourself this... Do you really TRUST these people?Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

I'd love to see the analysis broken down in retrospect of Colin Powells briefing to the UN exposing the inaccuracies of the information given.
I remember that as a big final push before "shock and awe"My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0 -

Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

iraq has been in the bush plan since way before 9/11
people tried to give warnings..and he was elected anyway
we tried to explain that dick cheney and donald rumsfeld are liars and the iraqi's werent and never were a threat to the united states. EVER!
we tried to explain bin laden is the guy we should be hunting down...still no one cares.. he is being protected and no one cares.
we tried to explain this is a war to own the oil fields... bush was reelected.
we are trying to explain iran is not a threat to the united states...
tooooo late0 -
It is a stupid report since "iraq and nuclear weapons" thing was mentioned 532 times. in other news, my broken watch reported the correct time 730 times this past year.I don't want to be hostile. I don't want to be dismal. But I don't want to rot in an apathetic existance either.0

thats a good point but the point they are making is that the same falsehood was repeated over and over.0 -

Take a look at this link or just do a google news search for bush lied and you'll see lots of other articles about this.
It seems that maybe the source of this information may not have been fair and balanced and may have had an agenda of their own.
Anyway i'm not a bush supportor I was against the war, but i do think it is worth considering where the info came from.Charlotte 00 | Charlotte 03 | Asheville 04 | Atlanta 12 | Greenville 16 | Columbia 16 |Seattle 18 | Nashville 22 | Ohana Festival 24 x2 | Atlanta 25 x20 -
