WASHINGTON - A study by two nonprofit journalism organizations found that President Bush and top administration officials issued hundreds of false statements about the national security threat from Iraq in the two years following the 2001 terrorist attacks.

The study concluded that the statements "were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses."
The study was posted Tuesday on the Web site of the Center for Public Integrity, which worked with the Fund for Independence in Journalism.
White House spokesman Scott Stanzel did not comment on the merits of the study Tuesday night but reiterated the administration's position that the world community viewed Iraq's leader, Saddam Hussein, as a threat.
"The actions taken in 2003 were based on the collective judgment of intelligence agencies around the world," Stanzel said.
The study counted 935 false statements in the two-year period. It found that in speeches, briefings, interviews and other venues, Bush and administration officials stated unequivocally on at least 532 occasions that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction or was trying to produce or obtain them or had links to al-Qaida or both.

1.) the admin/military was embarrassed as hell about 9/11/01
2.) the admin needed a war-time president to get re-elected. they needed a sustained war campaign to last through the elections to distract the American public.
3,000 dead soldiers later...there is no end in sight. pathetic.
None of the candidates this time around light my fire either. It'll be like trying to decide between a shit burger cooked well and a shit burger cooked rare. UGH.
could it be because the entire federal gov't is complicit at some level?
at what point to we say enough is enough? we give these people 40% of our money to lie, cheat, steal, and kill.. and we're ok with that?
It's not paranoia... it is reality. Ask yourself this... Do you really TRUST these people?
Hail, Hail!!!
I remember that as a big final push before "shock and awe"
jlew...
there is hope for you yet
this sounds a little contradictory to what he normally says about being able to keep a 'conspiracy' quiet:
broke down and tried out the tinfoil tonight, nice!
Clinton got screwed over one white lie...
I bet all the Iraqi's wish they got a blowjob instead
happy snoozing everybody! ...
let's all keep playing ostrich and buy more ipods
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

people tried to give warnings..and he was elected anyway
we tried to explain that dick cheney and donald rumsfeld are liars and the iraqi's werent and never were a threat to the united states. EVER!
we tried to explain bin laden is the guy we should be hunting down...still no one cares.. he is being protected and no one cares.
we tried to explain this is a war to own the oil fields... bush was reelected.
we are trying to explain iran is not a threat to the united states...
tooooo late
thats a good point but the point they are making is that the same falsehood was repeated over and over.
Take a look at this link or just do a google news search for bush lied and you'll see lots of other articles about this.
It seems that maybe the source of this information may not have been fair and balanced and may have had an agenda of their own.
Anyway i'm not a bush supportor I was against the war, but i do think it is worth considering where the info came from.
