drug testing at the workplace......

schools drug test like crazy. you have to sign up for something called "It's my call" in my county... they test you anyway. i've never 'signed up' for anything but i've been tested no less than 6 or 7 times since sophmore year (all negative thank you..). They claim it's random which is also bullshit. It's 75% long haired or gangsta types getting 'randomly selected'.trappedinmyradio wrote:yeah, it is hard to do that. it's called wrongful termination. unless you have a test result to confirm it you have no leg to stand on. schools drug test?
I went to a war protest last october with some friends. Our school paper did an article on it.. A friend of mine and myself were in a picture and another friend was interviewed. THE NEXT DAY right after the paper was passed out all 3 of us were 'randomly selected' for testing.
And as for the wrongful termination thing, if some guy is coming in drunk or strung out on heroin or something you can test him.. but if you're responsible with your drug use (at least so it doesn't effect your work or schoolwork) than they have no business testing you. + the incompitence thing.Come on pilgrim you know he loves you..

in your country? where do you think i'm from?
there is an issue of higher insurance premiums, absenteeism, tardiness, workers' compensation claims that play a big role in organizations drug testing. there is so much beyond productivity. but, that has to be the bench mark. the biggest thing for any organizaiton is saving money. some organizations try to proactive with an EAP and diligent, trained supervisors...others opt for the quick fix or pre-hire, random, and yearly testing...when it comes down to it, you are working for an organization and they have the right to run their business as they see fit within the boundaries of reason, regulation, and the law. people that don't want to be barred from employment because of drug use should either, (1) stop using drugs, (2) find a place that doesn't test, or (3) ha ha, find a place that promotes drug use.
i have never heard of a school drug testing until just now.Pearl Jam and toast wrote:schools drug test like crazy. you have to sign up for something called "It's my call" in my county... they test you anyway. i've never 'signed up' for anything but i've been tested no less than 6 or 7 times since sophmore year (all negative thank you..). Nope, never have done and don't want anything to do with meth. I meant that I had worked with a lot of clients who fucked their children's lifes up as a direct result of a methamphetamine habit. Just wanted to set the records straight, loltrappedinmyradio wrote:are you saying that you worked high on meth? just wondering.
again, i think that i got off-track and was talking about pre-hire and for cause testing as opposed to random testing. by and large, i agree with you on random testing. the pitfalls are too great and non-problem employees are wrongly terminated for recreational marijuana use. but, i do agree with random testing as per the DOT. case in point: i worked with the DOH during summer during undergrad and there was a truck driver (which falls under DOT testing) and he was a drunk. he was a risk and a liability. random testing found him out and he will never drive for DOH again. he still has DOH employment, but none of it involves driving. he digs a lot of ditches, holds a lot of signs, and paints and push-mows a lot, but that's it.0 -

well, i'm from WV and with meth being such a cheap drug it has become a hit in the rural areas in the state. it's sad. i had to write an employee assistance program manual for an grocery store and i didn't even address the marijuana issue (it's a grocery store...come on). the big issue was meth. because of this i recommended a comprehensive plan that offered outreach and resources to the entire family unit instead of just the employee. my father is a police officer so i have an interesting, upclose view of the meth problem in the county where my parents live...garages and homes burning to the ground...a baby dying in a meth lab explosion (the "lab" was in the bottom drawer of a dresser)...increase in robberies...add that these three situations, all the things that happen...so, i felt it was a good idea to get that program up and running in the second largest employer in the county and try to penetrate into the community and make strides towards improving lives.I'll dig a tunnel

Yeah, it's horrible how bad it is here too. It's such an easy thing to make and for people to get ahold of, expecially since this is a farming community with plenty of ammonia for their taking. I've first hand seen some pretty bad things when I worked for CPS and got to visit more than a fair share of "dirty houses" with extreme neglectful situations. Pathetic how it ruins people......literally. The sad thing is how many people just aren't aware of what meth is and how it works...............It is the main reason it pisses me off when people lump "drugs" into one big category. Meth addicts aren't that hard to spot in the workplace..............I have nothing against singling them out for drug tests and firings. Clear the job up for someone who actually cares about their life.trappedinmyradio wrote:well, i'm from WV and with meth being such a cheap drug it has become a hit in the rural areas in the state. it's sad. i had to write an employee assistance program manual for an grocery store and i didn't even address the marijuana issue (it's a grocery store...come on). the big issue was meth. because of this i recommended a comprehensive plan that offered outreach and resources to the entire family unit instead of just the employee. my father is a police officer so i have an interesting, upclose view of the meth problem in the county where my parents live...garages and homes burning to the ground...a baby dying in a meth lab explosion (the "lab" was in the bottom drawer of a dresser)...increase in robberies...add that these three situations, all the things that happen...so, i felt it was a good idea to get that program up and running in the second largest employer in the county and try to penetrate into the community and make strides towards improving lives.0 -
