AS far as I know Irish water is still flouridated (if that's a word). I've never had any fillingsI'll Ride The Wave Where It Takes Me0

you might not have fillings but thats more likely due to the fact that Irish people cant afford candy and sugar. Scotland stopped it a while back, but thats because we discovered this thing called toothpaste which has fluoride in it...
as the article said, i'd rather have the choice when it comes to giving my kids flouridated water (i dont know if its a word either Hitchy, but it sounds good)
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.0 -
fluoridation of public water supplies has been a great thing. as long as the concentration does not exceed 1.0ppm, it has shown to have a significant effect on the decrease in dental caries.Yeh I've seen Pearl Jam, too. But I can't remember the dates.0

You know what really sucks. My town had some of the best tasting water in the entire US (no kidding, it won a contest) and some fucking asshole decided it needed to flourified (floooooooourified...floooooooourified!) and now it tastes like everyone else's shitty tap water. So what if there were a few billionths ppm more bacteria than what some hippie decided was healthy! We've never had a problem with people getting sick from our water EVER! I miss that water. It was truely awesome water!0

the aim of fluoridating water supplies is not to decrease the amount of bacteria in it. it has nothing to do with improving "water that makes people sick".
F is tasteless. chlorine on the other hand is a different story - it is used to kill off bacteria and makes the water taste like shit.Yeh I've seen Pearl Jam, too. But I can't remember the dates.0 -
Fluoride rocks. My parents made me brush with a special flouride solution when I was a kid, and it's probably a big part of why I've never had a cavity.
Putting shit in people's water, however, does not rock.0 -

I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.
Fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face.
El Kabong, do you realize that in addition to fluoridating water, why, there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk... ice cream. Ice cream, El Kabong, children's ice cream. You know when fluoridation first began?
Nineteen hundred and forty-six. Nineteen forty-six, El Kabong. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core Commie works.0 -

I wonder how much of that is due to genetics. My parents did the same with me, but I have had 4 cavities (although I did inherit straight teeth, never needed braces). One of the cavities is in my wisdom teeth and I can't find a dentist that will just fill it. They all want to pull my wisdom teeth.
Also, this article is a bit disturbing to me, because all of the pediatricians recommend that baby formula be made with fluorinated water. They even make special fluorinated bottle water for just that purpose. They stress giving your child fluorinated tap water opposed to bottled water. The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance,
but the illusion of knowledge.

That's a good question on genetics. Not sure of the science -- I've never looked into it. My parents both are rife with cavities, but obviously that could be from other causes, rather than lack of flouride.
I've always kind of laughed at the people freaked out about flouride in their water. But, at the same time, I've never looked into it. Plus, I've been on well water for most of my life so I don't really care0 -
"a) Risk to the brain. According to the National Research Council (NRC), fluoride can damage the brain. Animal studies conducted in the 1990s by EPA scientists found dementia-like effects at the same concentration (1 ppm) used to fluoridate water, while human studies have found adverse effects on IQ at levels as low as 0.9 ppm among children with nutrient deficiencies and 1.8 ppm among children with adequate nutrient intake. (7-10)
b) Risk to the thyroid gland. According to the NRC, fluoride is an “endocrine disrupter.” Most notably, the NRC has warned that doses of fluoride (0.1-0.3 mg/kg/day) achievable by drinking fluoridated water, may reduce the function of the thyroid among individuals with low-iodine intake. Reduction of thyroid activity can lead to loss of mental alertness, depression and weight gain (11)"
Mr Kabong... most will laugh at you, but the others will laugh with you.
anyone know what the largest human organ is? thats right, your skin. you can avoid drinking it, but you cant avoid bathing in it. some people wonder why we are an intelectually docile nation that is entertained by celebrity lives and meaningless garbage? and others wonder why our nation is the fattest in world history ( i need to lose a few like most)? maybe, just maybe this has something to do with it? i am not saying it is so, but i am open to discussion. is it a possible cospiracy? of course its possible... is it just a mistake that needs to be corrected? i think that could be as well.
thanks for the link, pretty interesting.
the health of your teeeth is fairly simple. dont eat things that are bad for them, or bones (no sugar) and keep them clean by flossing and brushing. no chemicals needed, just regular maintenance0 -

Have you never wondered why I drink only distilled water, or rain water, and only pure grain alcohol?0 -

3) Contrary to previous belief, fluoride has minimal benefit when swallowed. When water fluoridation first began in the 1940s and '50s, dentists said that fluoride needed to be swallowed in order to be most effective. This belief, however, has now been discredited by an extensive body of modern research (1).
According to the Centers for Disease Control, fluoride's "predominant effect is posteruptive and topical" (2). In other words, any benefits that accrue from the use of fluoride, come from the direct application of fluoride to the outside of teeth (after they have erupted into the mouth) and not from ingestion. There is no need and little benefit, therefore, exposing all other tissues to fluoride by swallowing it.
6) Ingestion of fluoride has little benefit, but many risks. Whereas fluoride's benefits come from topical contact with teeth, its risks to health (which involve many more tissues than the teeth) result from being swallowed.
Adverse effects from fluoride ingestion have repeatedly been associated with intake levels atttainable by people living in fluoridated areas. For example:
a) Risk to the brain. Reduction of thyroid activity can lead to loss of mental alertness, depression and weight gain (11)
c) Risk to bones. According to the NRC, fluoride can diminish bone strength and increase the risk for bone fracture. While the NRC was unable to determine what level of fluoride is safe for bones, it noted that the best available information40 suggests that fracture risk may be increased at levels as low 1.5 ppm, which is only slightly higher than the concentration (0.7-1.2 ppm) added to water for fluoridation. (12)
d) Risk for bone cancer. Animal and human studies – including a recent study from a team of Harvard scientists – have found a connection between fluoride and a serious form of bone cancer (osteosarcoma) in males under the age of 20. The connection between fluoride and osteosarcoma has been described by the National Toxicology Program as "biologically plausible." Up to half of adolescents who develop osteosarcoma die within a few years of diagnosis. (13-16)
e) Risk to kidney patients. People with kidney disease have a heightened susceptibility to fluoride toxicity. The heightened risk stems from an impaired ability to excrete fluoride from the body. As a result, toxic levels of fluoride can accumulate in the bones, intensify the toxicity of aluminum build-up, and cause or exacerbate a painful complex bone disease known as renal osteodystrophy. im fucked.
if i have fluoride in my water, ill go crazy and die. if i dont, my teeth will fall out. if i drink milk, ill have strong bones but prostate cancer and heart disease. if i dont, ill have osteoporosis. if i eat a lot of meat, ill be thin and avoid empty carbs but die of high cholesterol. if i eat no meat, ill be fat from pastas and carbs and have no protein or muscle mass, but at least my heart will work.
you are all fucked. nobody here is healthy or can be healthy. everything good for you will kill you and everything bad for you will save you. it's hopeless. we're all going to die!0 -

no, i just dont want to read another article about how no matter what i end up ingesting it is inevitably going to kill me. i ignore any and all health advice now becos if you go by them, there is absolutely no way to be healthy and everything you eat will kill you.0 -
