    gerard wasn't in the mood for beth's namby-pamby maybes. he sighed and then moved towards the front door.

    'make up your mind beth, cause i'm going with or without you.'

    he hardly gave her a chance, picking up his keys and barely hesitating as he opened the door. he looked at her.

    When he was got to Anna's house he took a moment to compose himself. It always took the right approach to get Anna to be cooperative. He rang the bell firmly and short and then crossed his hands on his back.

    there was no answer, so he pressed the buzzer again.

    'you know i don't think she's home.'

    gerard looked back down the stairwell and saw a blonde head staring up at him. she climbed the stairs towards him.

    'i'm rachel, i live in the space below anna. we haven't heard anything from anna in a couple of days. we just figured she'd gone to the cabin.'

    'oh it's not hers. davey's uncle uses it for hunting. daniel told me anna goes up there sometimes when she really needs to get away. she's not been herself lately so we figured that's where she's gone. either that or back to rehab.'

    rachel grimaced to make light of that last comment, even though she knew how dead on she could actually be.

    anna could hear voices, but she wasn't sure where they were coming from or even if they weren't in her head. she looked around and frowned when she saw the destruction. her head hurt and she couldn't drag herself off the floor. she rolled over and buried her head in her arms.

    the phone rang again. it sounded shrilly through the studio.

    shut up shut up shut up

    anna tried to sit up. her feet hurt and were covered with dried blood and paint. her head swam and she vomited. her sides hurt and she managed to drag herself to her feet. again her head swam. she barely made it into the kitchen before throwing up again. she leant forward against the sink and rested her head on her arms. she closed her eyes trying to still her mind.

    why do i do this to myself?

    there was no answer of course. none that satisfied anybody, least of all anna.
    she knew this was all she knew how to do. paint, drink, fuck up her life. what else was there. davey left her. johnny didn't want to know her. she didn't know where arlo was. hell she'd even managed to kill her own child.
