Book Discussion

Would anyone be interested in a monthly book discussion. I started one on a different website, but I didn't attend so I don't know if it went anywhere. However, I started one at work, and although the attendance is still small, I think all of the attendees enjoy it. We could discuss books of poetry if you want. As long as the books are available to all of the attendees from different countries it shouldn't be a problem. Anyone interested?

    I'm interested, as long as I am pretty sure I wanna read the books recommended.......I'm pretty interested BB.......:)......I can't promise anything.....but it's a good idea........I totally love PJ Forums......

    Good idea. I have to agree it would need to be books that are more of my taste.

    Right now, I'm reading The Da Vinci Code and it's not too bad.

    I want to read the "Da Vinci Code", also. I alreay have a copy - yippee! ISN, are you up for Da Vinci Code? If not, what book do you want to read? Does the first Wednesday of the month seem like a good day?

    I think I might be interested. I have already read 'The Da Vinci Code' but I own it so I could just re-read it since it has been well over a year since I read it.

    Ok, so October 6th, anytime really since we all have different time zones. As with other posts, the discussion will continue as long as people post. Here's a reading group guide:

    This is just a guide, readers will probably just pop up with questions and answers. Is this all we need, or any other questions? If there is someone out there who has a passionate view of this book one way or the other, feel free to lead the discussion. Of course given the time difference issue there may be many group leaders. Who knows . . .this internet book discussion will be the first for me. :-)

    Im up for it,,, how ironic I'm in the middle of reading the Da Vinci Code myself, cool beans!

    Am I the only one who scopes ahead in a book so I have something to look forward to? In other words, I'm on page 37 in Da Vinci code, but . . .I may have looked a little at the last page, and possibly page 137 hehehehehe. Anyone else do this?

    I'm interested. Im in the middles of "The Religions of Man" and "The King David Report" But, I have read Da Vinci code, so, I suppose I may swing by

    Da Vinci Code? I always interested on that book everytime I saw it in the book store, but I always have ather book in my priority. Besides, I owe my self because I haven't finished reading several book at home, but reading your thread and all of the posts..... I'll buy and read Da Vinci Code...!

    I just finished, and I looked at the book discussion questions to see if this question was on it, but it wasn't:
    Throughout the book we are given the notion that the Grail is a woman, and in the epilogue the Grail is noted as the same woman. However, do you think this is the woman that Jacques wanted Robert to help Sophie find?

    No, if there was a woman Jaques wanted Sohpie to find it was her grandmother....which, in turn, would reveal to her her heretige.

    The book is a very good yarn IMO, Dan Brown leaves a lot to be desired when addressing his writing. His ideas are interesting and he leaves every chapter in a film style cliff hanger but as far as descriptive writing and scene setting.......it's all hollywood cliche.

    Just my opinion though. Now, Anne Rice......she can weave a scene!!!

    If this thing keeps up I'd probably do it, when it isn't the Da Vinci Code, I really hate Dan Brown, and his writing style.

    October 6th. Well, another question is since hardcore investigations into the Grail need to be hush hush it seems, do you think Dan Brown is a made up name for this author? This book is definitely mass market paperback quality. In fact, do you think the popularity of the quest is the reason why this book is still in hardcover only? Paperbacks are usually published a year after the hardcover is released.

    An idea, Bella. I'd start a new thread for each book. For example, I think you should make a thread called "Book Discussion 1: Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code". Then, make a new thread for Book 2, etc, knowing that people might want to add to the book discussion for Book 1 after the initial discussion is over, without their comments getting in the way of the post- order of people's discussion of Book 2. That way, you won't end up with this huge, mad thread that uses up bandwidth and which is characterised by incongruous and annoying "Re: Book 1" posts, by the time you're on to talking about book 58.

    Great minds think alike! I was thinking about that yesterday. When October 6th rolls around and we have decided on the next book then I will start a new thread.

    I think the decision not to go to paperback has nothing to do with the content. Marketing marketing marketing, it's still selling by the boatload. And I don't think grail investigations are very hush hush, (indiana jones?) Da Vinci Code is just popular catholic bashing, another reason why the book is doing so well.
