And this thread still deserves a damn sticky!
The thing is, there's no reason at all to hate on them. They are all very talented musicians and they are very good people. They give tons and tons to charities across the country, and they don't act like attention whore rock stars, they just walk out on stage and play the music.0 -
I never understood the DMB hate either, but everyone is allowed to have their opinion. Even if you "hate" them, you should respect that they do a TON of charity work & fundraisers.
That last article posted was very moving.......miss ya Roi!!!!
In one week, I'll be celebrating Roi's life in Berkeley. My lips are shaking.......0 -
I think its just the fans that people hate which causes them to think the band sucks. And I also agree that there shouldn't be a reason to hate them. Their fans and entire website seems just as dedicated to the band as PJ. If not more. PJ and DMB seem to be the only bands that truly care for their fans.5/28/06, 6/27/08, 10/28/09, 5/18/10, 5/21/10

I was watching it yesterday. I don't think I've ever heard him speak on a dvd untill that one. Great dvd. Hopefully DMB will release Leroi's last show. I think it was the June 28th show.If You Give, You Begin To Live

yeah i haven't listened to that one yet....i've been listening to both staples shows....the emotions and tenor of those shows comes through pretty good on the boots and for me going to those shows helped ease the pain if you will.....to see these guys play after losing one of family members....i'm honored the band shared their grief with the fans0 -

It seems to me that at the very least, PJ fans should be indifferent. But there is a lot of hate for DMB here, and for the life of me I can't understand it. I just don't see how anyone that appreciates quality music can HATE DMB.0 -
cutback wrote:just don't play them #41.....roi HATED that song
I just heard that! Is that true? A good friend of mine (and also a DMB fan) just told me that a few days ago.
I guess it would make sense, since I just read the interview that cutback posted, and it said LeRoi had a hard time finding the light in himself. Maybe he was uncomfortable knowing that the fans knew his solo was coming up, especially during #41. Maybe he felt he would disappoint...
I really love the Listener Supported version, that first note gave me chills years ago, and does so even more now.
He was definitely in the spotlight on that song... and I am so glad I got to see them so many times. It won't feel the same next tour.macci wrote:I still can't believe that Roi is gone.
I still can't believe it either.10c #TBD

I just watched their Storytellers - Roi has plenty to say on that one, cracking jokes even.nothing's changed but the surrounding bullsh1t0 -

Haha... I see.
Did you see any shows this year?
I made it to the two at the Tweeter Center, and VA Beach. The new covers they have been playing sounded good, too.10c #TBD

I thought Burning Down the House was awesome at the LA show (I wasn't there, but have the boot). A couple reviews said it was lame but I thought it kicked ass. Same with Sledgehammer, which was never one of my favorite songs, but I like DMB doing it.nothing's changed but the surrounding bullsh1t0 -

Wow... "surreal" has to be the only word for those shows. I can't even imagine the feeling in the crowd, and on stage. Must have been one that you can only understand by being there.pjamamy wrote:I thought Burning Down the House was awesome at the LA show (I wasn't there, but have the boot). Yeah, Burning Down The House was great. I'm the same as you with Sledgehammer. You know it, and blah blah... but when a band you love covers it, you find some kind of new appreciation for it, I guess. Personally, I enjoyed hearing Money. It was my favorite of the new covers they did this tour.
PS: They finally played Watchtower at the Gorge. It was only a matter of time.10c #TBD

Leaving for San Fran tonight. The berkeley shows are going to be bitter-sweet.
If they do the Roi tribute again, I may lose it.My lips are shaking.......0 -
One more show to go on the official tour. It's so sad how the tour started with the full band and now it's almost over with LeRoi gone.

We just returned from Berkeley & the shows were excellent The third night was Leroi's birthday. Fans made a giant card & thousands signed it & it was held up during the show. Fans also passed out balloons - when the band came out everyone hit the balloons around. They were also the glowstick throws which have become a fixture since Roi's passing.
When the band finished the regular set, the huge card was thrown on stage. Dave rolled it up & took it with him. When the band left the stage, the studio version of "#34" started & they played a tribute to Roi up on the screens.....it was very sad, not a dry eye in the house.
I am very happy that we decided to go - it was a very fitting tribute & it was out way of paying respects to a great musician who will be sorely missed.
Rest In Peace Roi.My lips are shaking.......0 -
i can't believe it's already been a month....seems like yesterday :(0

I was just thinking about last year's show at Piedmont Park. They played Happy Birthday to LeRoi as the 2nd song. He had less than a year to live at that point. Sad.
I wonder what the band will do next year, if anything.0
