Fuck the nay-sayers
Haven't listened for about a year. Should give it a spin soon. Sworn & Broken was always one of my favourite songs.

Somebody list the three album names or band names or whatver that I have to hear involving Lanegan outside of the Trees and QOTSA. I need to hear some new, or even older Lanegan that I haven't heard. I picked up Whiskey for the Holy Ghost once and I found I could nod off faster listening to that than if I was doing H. with Mark himself.

I totally agree that it's better than Sweet Oblivion (although that is a great record too), and I was just playing along to Sworn and Broken, probably my favourite on the record.
Gutter Twins - Saturnalia
Soulsavers - It's Not How Far You Fall...
Solo - Bubblegum
Thank you!

i am with you on this one look at you and sworn & broken are my favourites
Yeah Look at You is my other favourite - although it's pretty hard to pick favourites on an album that good.
Maybe if Mark Lanegan didn't feel the need to say the 2 most cliche lyrics in any song that could be written - "deep inside" on the album to the extent he does, it would be a 7.

i know i am gonna listen to dust on my ipod now traveler is another classic
I want Young Guns III to be made, just so Blaze of Idiocy could be its theme song.
And also so that Emilio Estevez could get some work. I miss that guy.
hang on... wouldn't that mean more Jon Bon Jovi? Because I do NOT endorse that.
As for Emilio Estevez, eschewing his father and brother's stage name isn't looking like such an admirable move any more is it?
It'd mean more Jon Bon Jovi, but he'd be singing some poxy power ballad about being an idiot. How can you not endorse that?
Interesting fact: the guitar solo on Blaze of Glory was played by Mr. Jeff Beck.
I totally agree with this. If you were to pick one to start with I would say Saturnalia. It's a little more upbeat than the others if that's what your looking for.
Oh, and my respect for Mr Beck just slipped a bit
I always said Sambora was the real talent of that group. And look at him now: drunk-driving his kids around while Jonbon smooches up with LeAnn Rimes in some godawful country schmaltz-athon. I was right all along.
Meanwhile... Dust is good.
Totally agree with this post. The Trees, his solo work, collaborations......anything this man touches turns to gold and I just love him. I wish he'd do another solo album already.
And yea in response to this post, Dust IS a masterpiece. This, No Code, and Down on the Upside in one year, what a year that was!
Who couldn't love Dying Days?! That McCready solo is killer!
Don't worry, I don't give a shit. Really, there are too many better albums than Dust in the history of music for it to even be worthy of a mention. The only reason you're all talking about Dust now is because you don't know that.

OK name some of these albums.
I heard they can't even give away tickets to Avril Lavigne's concerts these days!
That's cool, what was he like? Had the chance to meet him in a pub before a gig around 3 - 4 years ago, but he was eating so didn't want to disturb him. Sometimes regret that decision, but don't think I would have felt comfortable doing the whole fan thing when he was in the middle of a bowl of pasta

He was actually really nice. He didn't say too much but was really courteous and I got a picture with him. He seems to genuinely appreciate his fans but I don't think I would have talked to him if he was eating either.
Name SOME of these albums? That's it? Just some? Out of the hundreds & possibly thousands of albums in existance better than Dust?
Where to begin? Well known albums? Lesser known albums? So many albums better than Dust... I'll just look at my album collection & randomly choose them.
Coltrane - Love Supreme
Rage Against the Machine - Evil Empire
Charlie Christian - The Genius of Electric Guitar
Tom Waits - Rain Dogs
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
The Cure - The Head on the Door
The Velvet Underground - Loaded
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band
The Doors - Morrison Hotel
Neutral Milk Hotel - Avery Island
Neil Young - On The Beach
Albert King - Born Under A Bad Sign
Should I just keep going on forever? Because I really could. All those albums above + hundreds or thousands more are better than 'Dust', yet here you all are, talking about what a "masterpiece" it is - please, Pearl Jam fans, step out of your "grunge" circumference & comfort zone.
Dust is slighty above a decent album, too full of cliches for it to even be pretty good.
If it's such a masterpiece, how come hardly anyone gives a shit about Dust? Because it's not - you all just like the sound 'cus it fits in with the Pj type sound of the 90s.
