And for this generation, I'd go Derek Trucks and Davy Knowles. Both of these guys are absolutley fucking spectacular.
And in keeping with what I said to you before about the first time I saw Davy Knowles when he was just a kid, I'm glad he got named in this thread before Clapton :p Blows him out of the water.

    Mick Taylor or Keith Richards
There's Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Robert Johnson......and then everybody else.
  • If we're gonna go with living guitarists, I don't think this can be beat.

Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.

Jimi Hendrix followed by Stevie Ray Vaughn. There isn't a close third.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

Two my favorites. I love those Phish 4 disc live albums. you throw them in on a sunny day at a BBQ or something and let 'em play. Trey sounds amazing on every track. and Frank? what can I say? we all know how he's a whole 'nother level with everything he did.

    Howie Day hands down......

Just screwing around, so many greats have been mentioned, but I will have to add B.B. King to the list. Few people can match him when he is armed with Lucille.

  • Jimi Hendrix was the best ever. He was from another planet. Jimi never played cover songs (with the exception of some Beatles and Dylan) because he didn't have to. Stevie Ray was great too, but played a lot of cover songs live, including many Jimi covers. Stevie was never the creator Jimi was but technically Stevie was as clean as you'll ever hear.

Jimi Hendrix was hands down the greatest ever.

I can't decide between these two Gods:

    Jimi Hendrix
    Stevie Ray Vaughan

Some days I give SRV the edge just because he was around longer to perfect his style. On the other hand, no guitar player has been more influential than Jimi.
    Rock on!
