Since it's a list of *rock* drummers, here's who I expect to be in the Top 10 (not in any particular order):

    Mike Portnoy
    Keith Moon
    Josh Friese
    John Bonham
    Dave Grohl
    Charlie Watts
    Terry Bozzio
    Carter Beauford
    Danny Carey
Lars Ulrich (this is the one I probably disagree with most, but I would imagine he'll be on the list)

There's a few in that bottom 30 that I would not put in a rock drummer list, there's 3 or 4 that come in the jazz and funk bracket. Makes their top 10 a little hard to predict? Wouldn't be surprised to see Danny Carey or Lars in there though, good choices.

chad smith sucks, i think dave a is better then him

Yeah, I think Dave A is better, but there is no chance he'll be in this top 10. More chance of me meeting the Japanese guy from Heroes and getting transported into the Vic just as the house lights go down!

I saw Bill Bruford put on a drum clinic. One of the most amazing things I've ever seen.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V
  • Drummers are a dime a dozen ... except for a few rare cases, you can easily replace a drummer and the band wouldn;t skip a beat.
I don't want to be hostile. I don't want to be dismal. But I don't want to rot in an apathetic existance either.
  • I think 'Head Down' should qualify Cameron. Amazing.

So happy to see Grant Hart on there. I love him and I love Husker Du.
His solo stuff was cool, too. 2541 will forever epitomize my first semester in college. le sigh....

If Cameron is top 10, then the list is cracked.

He's just to goddamn consistant and has that wild ability to seamlessly stick very odd time signatures into songs without you noticing. I think he's worthy.. He's no Chamberlin, but he's worthy.

Cameron is a very good, very competent drummer, and wouldn't be out of place in the top 50. He's no top 10.

I was pleased to see Bill Ward in the top 20, very under rated. Check out The Wizard. Fantastic stuff. Juk

Not even close, and he is the the king of seamlessly switching into random ridiculously complex time signatures. I don't think even Matt would say he is as good as him.

Side note - I think Neil should have been closer to the top ten.

you're probably right,.. I've just got a personal bias for his style.

Fair enough, can't argue with taste.

I've just got out my crystal ball and will now predict the top 10 based on their selections so far. I'll be staggered if I get more than 3 right.

    John Bonham
    Keith Moon
    Stewart Copeland
    Topper Headon
    Charlie Watts
    Mitch Mitchell
    Carl Palmer
    Steve Gadd
    Vinnie Colaiuta
    Nick Mason

    Outside bet Chad Smith?

5 out of 10, not bad, although pretty obvious choices. Moe Tucker in the top 10?? Karen Carpenter was a better drummer! Stephen Morris??? I always thought Joy Division used a drum machine until I saw a documentary on them a few years back. Bernard Purdie, as good a drummer that he is, should not qualify for a rock drummer list.
