I would have put Billy Cobham in the top 20 and wouldn't have Ringo within 1,000 miles of any best drummer list, imo. Yeah, I know he is a funny and charismatic guy but didn't Lennon say he wasn't even the best drummer in The Beatles?

Ginger Baker and Neil Peart not in the top 20? Nice to see some names that don't usually get mentioned in best drummer polls, Reni, Jimmy Chamberlain, Lol Tolhurst.
Here's a list of drummers that I reckon should walk any top 20, but I'm reckoning most of these won't get a mention?

    Terry Bozzio
    Steve Gadd
    Chester Thompson
    Vinnie Colaiuta
    Phil Taylor (just for Overkill)
    Cozy Powell
    Jack Irons
    Brian Downey
    Ian Paice

Janet Weiss, Bill Bruford and Neil Peart were all way too low on this list. :(

seeing that guy live is like being in the presence of a god... I saw him with some cuban band and he managed to start off a drum solo by just tapping the cymbals with his finger nails for about 4 minutes and it was still captivating.

Kind of a strange list. I'm curious to see who the top 10 are.

Bonham, Grohl, Cameron, Irons :), Carey all should figure

and obviously Keith Moon at number 1!

I kind of hope Irons and Cameron don't make it. There are so many better drummers than them. I'm just curious to see if Tony Williams and Mike Portnoy are also there (in edition to Bonham and Moon and possibly Carey and I doubt Grohl).

I highly doubt cameron or irons will make it although i like them both a lot.

I would not be surprised to see carey, bonham, and beuford carter in the top ten. Perhaps they'll give the nod to keith moon but i always felt he was a bit overated.

I've just got out my crystal ball and will now predict the top 10 based on their selections so far. I'll be staggered if I get more than 3 right.

    John Bonham
    Keith Moon
    Stewart Copeland
    Topper Headon
    Charlie Watts
    Mitch Mitchell
    Carl Palmer
    Steve Gadd
    Vinnie Colaiuta
    Nick Mason

    Outside bet Chad Smith?
  • Since it's a list of *rock* drummers, here's who I expect to be in the Top 10 (not in any particular order):

    Mike Portnoy
    Keith Moon
    Josh Friese
    John Bonham
    Dave Grohl
    Charlie Watts
    Terry Bozzio
    Carter Beauford
    Danny Carey
Lars Ulrich (this is the one I probably disagree with most, but I would imagine he'll be on the list)

Ugh. No no no. He should not be on the list.

9/10 on your list is not bad though! Not bad at all! :)
