anyone a fan? I heard a few songs from "from a basement on the hill" a couple of years ago and didnt pay a whole load of attention but, what with New Moon being released, I felt I should give him another try and I'm totally hooked. maybe I just needed to hear this stuff at this time but I can't stop listening, especially to his first few albums like Either/Or and self-titled. I love the lo-fi 4-track quality.

Angeles is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

    Personally, he's my favourite songwriter ever (yes, even surpassing Lennon).
    Every song stands for itself and it doesn't feel like there's any filler, even the B sides and unreleased songs are equally great.

    Looking Over My Shoulder, Twilight, Angeles and Junk Bond Trader are my personal favs

    Had the pleasure of seeing Elliot Smith play his last show a week before he took his life. The show had the strangest vibe of any show I have ever seen. Can't help but replay those images and emotions everytime I listen to his music. Definitely a tragic genius.

    Also if you can find it, Get the album "Mic City Sons" by Heatmiser.

    It's Elliott's original group. It's an amazing album.

    I just got into him recently when a friend lent me either/or. I bought from a basement on a hill and XO after that and I'm hooked. He was amazing.

    Yes yes yes.
    Mic City Sons is where it all started to fall apart for Heatmiser (Smith had already released 2 albums by that point and it was pretty clear he was gonna leave), but it's definitely they're best album.

    Cop & Speeder is grand too, but haven't been able to find or download Dead Air :(

    I think everything he has done is great with the exception of figure 8. I can't get into most of it, but a couple of songs are amazing. X/0 has to be one of the best start to finish records ever though...not a bad moment.

    New Moon, a collection of his b-sides and rarities came out last month and I love it. Miss Misery might be the best hate song ever written

    Not sure how many people on this board subscribe to emusic.com? I have found it is the cheapest way to buy good music.

    Anyways, I got New Moon off that site a couple weeks back and have enjoyed most the album.

    It is a great place to get all the songs that I don't want to buy the whole hard copy album for.

    75 downloads a month for $14.99. Hard to beat.
