Anyone a fan of the genre? I havent heard much but am fascinated by how extreme the bands seem to be. Mayhem's band history is bizaare and disturbing.
Is it a worthwhile genre or just a commercial and money making gimmick?
Lately it has come under fire especially in norway with fans of death metal setting fire to over 40 churches.
Bizaare stuff

yea black metal is definetely crazy, I watched a speicla on the discovery channel about black metal and they went to Norwya to interview some of the black metal bands there, and I gotta tell you, it was disturbing what they said. I havent listened to much of it though. I thought Slayer was nuts...Mayhem and Deicide make Slayer look like choir boys.0

i'm definitely not a fan of the satanic death/black metal bands. it's just evil music that serves no purpose whatsoever.
i'm not a right wing christian or anything, but i just dont see any logic in these bands.
take a band like Cannibal Corpse. most of their lyrics are about cutting up small children while cumming inside of them..and im not even exagerating.
that's not what music is supposed to be about.0 -

every genre by itself is worthwhile, but every genre also has money making gimmicks, like basically Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir for black metal, not bad bands per se, but pretty cliché and generic.
But some of these bands are definitely not for everyone, like Cannibal Corpse, as mentioned before.
Even know I have no clue about what is "evil music" and what music is really all about, but that's an endless debate in which I don't wanna take part, I'll just say, to each his own, and it's pretty awesome that Pearl Jam fans are mostly very open-minded.0 -

2 years ago i went to see type o negative and they opened up for cradle of filth. now i love type o, one of my favorite bands, they can hardly be considered ''death'' metal. i hadn't heard much about cradle so i decided to stick around a while to see what they were about. well, when they came on i thought the gates of hell opened up hahaha. it was pretty entertaining actually. i couldn't understand anything the guy was screaming but none the less i saw people singing along and i wondered what the words must be. one thing that was pretty cool though, for the first few songs they had these gargoyles on the speakers, i thought they were fake cuz they didn't move, then all of a sudden they got up and started jumping around to the music! scared the shit outta me hahaha. My favorite Pearl Jam song: "Corporate Greed Boat Asshole Behind a Counter in the Oval Office"0

eBay is just playing into the hands of the people who place too much importance on the media, go after the actual issues for god's sakes!"Feel it rising, yeah next stop falling!"

I used to listen to quite a lot of Death and Black Metal and still do from time to time. As anywhere, there are of course shitty bands in these genres but also good, technically very skilled bands.2000-06-23 Zurich
