I thought that people who don't know anything about heavy metal say their favorite bands are Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.
Does anyone else think that Pantera had a really unique sound? Part of it was Anselmo's voice.0 -
My first "rock/metal" gig was Pantera way back in 1991 supporting Megadeth talking about "jumping in the deep end" saw them a few more times over the years and even got Rex's plectrum!!London 1996 Cardiff 2000 Paris 2006 and London 2007.0

Dimebags guitar too..You can recognize it anywhere..I would call it a signature sound I guess..Only album I didn't really care for was Reinventing the SteelBarrie: 08/22/98 Boston 09 28-29/04

I remember putting on Greath Southern Trendkill back in the day and thinking ..."oh my od... this is the heaviest album ever made" It hurt to listen to it at the time.0

I agree with that totally, I think the music is GREAT but I'm not a fan of the bulldog-with-sorethroat singing style that Anselmo (and many other metal singers) has.0 -
I love me some Pantera.:)
And agree with the Cemetry Gates comment, which is probably what most people who know little about metal would do, lol.;)Can not be arsed with life no more.0 -
R I P Dimebag. What a sad day that was.
My wife is a dental hygeinist and has cleaned Rex's teeth before. Rock!DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

what a great metal band, this is one of few metal bands i really like, who can forget those brilliants riffs for dimebag, or that raw and powerful voice of anselmo ´´one of the best metal voice ever´´.....
also, they have a lot of good songs, i´m broken has a bestial riff´´many songs of them too´´ and floods has probably the best solo of dimebag...0 -
Probably one of the hardest bands ever to make it big. It's a shame that Phil tore them apart.0

i do miss pantera though. no one has managed that 'crunchy' sound quite as well since.PJ: 10/14/00 06/09/03 10/4/09 11/15/13 11/16/13 10/08/14

Is no one here a fan of Phil's voice? I know that he was a jerk, but no one did what Phil did the way he did it.
Would it be like Pearl Jam without Eddie Vedder?0 -
when i was a kid. Iron Maiden and Judas Priest turned me on to metal music. I also liked Ozzy Osbourne.
There may have been others, but i dont remember. Then there was Metallica. They got me into punk like Misfits.
Then came along others like Megadeth ,Anthrax to name some. And then There was Pantera. Metal with punk attitude. They took it to a new level. obviosly there were problems and the band eventually dissolved. And fans like me were disapointed. But then the combining of C.O.C. and Pantera created a new monster .
I was worried that Phil may not be as aggresive as he once was. but hearing "iscream" laid my fears to rest. the next Down album, i think will rock ...its ok0 -
