  • Start at the beginning and go to the end! How about that? What a concept!

Hmm... I actually like pablo honey but for a newbie I'd go along with the Bends - it's a classic. I still have it on cassette and drag it out every now and then. Must get it on cd, lol.
    The Astoria??? Orgazmic!
    Verona??? it's all surmountable
Dublin 23.08.06 "The beauty of Ireland, right there!"
    Wembley? We all believe!
Copenhagen?? your light made us stars
    Chicago 07? And love
    What a different life
Had I not found this love with you

Okay, here's my take. I love OK Computer and proclaimed for several years it was their greatest album but have to concede now that The Bends is better, from beginning to end. At this time I'd rank their studio albums in this order:

    The Bends
    OK Computer
    Hail to the Theif
    Kid A
    Pablo Honey
    Amnesiac

The Bends is one of the top three or four best rock albums of the 90's. Pablo Honey is a good rock album too, it just isn't nearly as consistent. OK Computer has the best first six songs of any Radiohead album, but the remaining six just aren't as strong. Kid A, Amnesiac, and Hail to the Theif are a mix of rock and electronic haze, with Amnesiac being the most electronica and Hail to the Theif the least of the three. But here's a secret nobody has mentioned yet. They have a bunch of killer b sides. A friend compiled a whole albums worth of b sides we call The Bends II. If you can get you hands on these singles, do it.

    India Rubber
    Lewis (Mistreated)
    Banana Co.
    Talk Show Host
    Killer Cars
    Maquiladora
    Molasses
    Trickster
    Bishop's Robes
    Punchdrunk Lovesick Singalong
    Pearly
    Permanent Daylight
    How Can You Be Sure
You Never Wash Up After Yourself

If this were an actual album you could purchase I'd rank it just behind The Bends. It's that good.

get a copy of the 2003 concert in France, it ran on cable last month, or get Bonnaroo bootleg from this year. I think great places to start if you're interested in checking out what Radiohead is all about- the great live shows.
  • i just dont care for electronica, ambience, or anything of the sort. i like my guitars. *shrugs*
    Yeah exactly, it's too different.

    Which is understandable.

Radiohead is one of the only bands i'd give the benefit of a doubt to put on a better live show than Pearl Jam.

And your friend left off a TON of other incredible b-sides ;)

Follow Me Around (premiere b-side from HTTT - played live a bunch), Where Bluebirds Fly, Lift (maybe the most hailed b-side other than maybe Talk Show Host), etc. :)

  • have you heard the new stuff? some pretty rockin' tunes (spooks and bodysnatchers are my faves). but even the beat-oriented stuff has some nice riffing in it (15 step, down is the new up).

i saw them at the greek on 6/30...amazing show. you can d/l it at dime...incredible sound.
yeah, i think they're moving back towards the guitars. That started with HTTT.
