design (it's gotta look good)
rarity (the print runs were lower back in the day, plus, many of those older posters didn't survive, many pinholes, taped, etc)
desire (people gotta want it)

Actually, it was sanctioned by the promoter. In other words, it was an actual gig poster created to promote the show, not just a piece of merch.
