What a fucking record, anyone who doesn't own this masterpiece should be ashamed of themselves. Dark, soulful rock of the very highest order, words can barely do justice to how damn perfect this album is, with its amazing atmospherics, soaring chorus' and monsterous grooves - it doesn't get any better than this.

anyone who is a whigs fan should also have congregation and gentlemen. i happen to have all of them, except for uptown avondale, which is a covers tribute..
twilight singers are also very awesome.lay down all thoughts; surrender to the void

            Great record.
One thing I really miss... their excellent videos. "Honky's Ladder" and "Going to Town" were great, and "Gentleman" was off the chart.
I admit I was wrong on them. I was certain that they were going to be huge, but they never really caught onI love my female wife...

think that Gentlemen is the top Afghan record, though I do have Black Love (and 1969 or something) at home, will put it on tonight when I get home to have a listen...........as for the Twilight Singers, well their first two albums are just too spaced out for me to get into..........I heard that Dulli is making an album with Mark Lanegan which is interesting0

You are right about the first two Twilight singers records, but the new one, Powder Burns is incredible. It's far more like Afghan Whigs, lots of memorable songs with big chorus'.0

Greg Dulli is a fucking God I tell you!
The Whigs were an amazing band, Black Love is outstanding album (lacking only decent production values, grr), but I give 1969 the Best Whigs album award.
The Twilight Singers after a iffy start (the debut is patchy) hit full stride with the wonderfully dark 'Blackberry Belle' (the title track features a Dulli/Lanigan duet ) and the this years offering 'Powder Burns' is nearly as good again. ) and the this years offering 'Powder Burns' is nearly as good again.
Also check out 'Amber Headlights' released as a Dulli solo album last year - while not as strong as the very best Whigs/Twilight stuff it's still damn good, the song 'Pussywillow' is one of Dulli's very best.0

How exciting... a dulli/whigs/twilight thread yay!
The Whigs are just about one of the greatest bands. Just a shame hardly anyone ever listened to 'em... Black Love - genius album, but then again, i think Gentlemen/1965 were too.... it depends what mood you're in, really.
I'm surprised at the general underwhelming opinions on the first Twilight album, though. that's a truly great record. it's a bit of a change from his usual fare - the influence of fila brazilia, i guess, but with dulli/happy/smith singing on it it's amazing!! the tracks from that album also sound fantastic when he plays them live.
aaaaaah... thoughts of dulli.... mmmmmm.... wanna go for a ride......http://www.myspace.com/cellophanehand

I love the Afghan Whigs. Their music speaks to me. It's rare for a white guy ro sing with so much soul as Dulli. Great fuckin' band. Just started to get into Twilight Singers liking them a lot too.0

Oh HELL Yeah! Can I get an AMen(t)??? Keith, where you at?
Much love for the MAN and the whigs.
I've been a fan since my best friend brought back Congregation on christmas break from Cornell all of those years ago. Damn, it's like yesterday.
I am really into the new Twilight Singers too. As someone mentioned it has a very Whigs throwback feel to it - and I like it! 0 0

Black Love, 1965, Gentelmen - all genius.
First Twilight album just good, but after that everything has been quality - Blackberry Belle tops it for me - Number 9 is the best album closer ive ever heard.0

Black Love is letdown by poor production, it really hurts the album.
As a collection of songs however it's one (if not the best) of Dulli's best.
Hears hoping oneday for a digitally remaster version.0

Greg Dulli and Mark Lanegan are recording an album together under the name 'Gutter Twins' it's going to be released early 2007 and if the new Twilight's EP is anything to go by it's gonna be good.Dublin 2006
 Katowice 2007
 London 20070
