Blackened sky is actually a really brilliant album, id kinda ignored them for a while but its a great rock album, very powerful guitars. Might try and see them at T this year.People say im paranoid. Well, they dont say it, but i know that's what they are thinking.0

They've been toning down how much new stuff they were going to play as originally Puzzle was meant to be out in time for the tour but it got put bcak till Monday......and now cos i have to go to London for a week tomorrow I'm not going to get it till next saturday...damn you play.com, why don't you send your discs on Thursdays like you used to.
Anyway...I haven't seen them this tour, was going to go up to Glasgow for the show last night but funds did not permit....flights from Glasgow to Cardiff seem a lot more expensive than they used to be!A democracy on paper, apparently well ordered, regularly subverted by irrational chaos.

definitely coming across as a more mainstream attempt. nothing wrong with that, as its accompanying their move to the big time
i do like it after the first listen

I've heard the majority of the songs from Puzzle played live....they've been playing some of them for the best part of two years!
I don't know if it's really a stab at the mainstream as i think most of the songs I've heard aren't vastly different to any of the stuff on Infinity Land...maybe more rocking if anything. I think they've just got a decent label and some money behind them now that the press have started to take some notice at long last.
The review in NME of the new album is quite sickening. It talks about how they were the best kept secret in rock as if the paper has been behind them from day one when NME actually spent years ignoring them. The only magazine thats ever shown any interest in them was Kerrang.A democracy on paper, apparently well ordered, regularly subverted by irrational chaos.

I don't really think this album is more mainstream, but they are on a bigger label, so this label are going to push it more, and it seems to be working. It's more radio friendly that Vertigo Of Bliss, but it's probably on a par with Blackened Sky, I would say. I don't know about any similarity to Infinity Land, as save for a few tracks, I don't like that album.~AKA Dave-of-the-dead~

i dunno, theres just something about the tracks that dont link that much with infinity land in my opinion, but thats not a bad thing.
it just sounds more commercially orientated music. and im not meaning that in the usual way that people use that phrase, it isn't a criticism
e.g. who's got a match isn't really typical biffy, its a lot lighter and more commerically viable. still an awesome tune!Dublin Leeds Berlin Wembley0 -
I love Who's Got A Match.....its got that great 80s style bouncing bass line
I agree, Infinity land isn't them at their best. they say they tried to marry a pop element to their sound and I don't think it really worked.
I think there are a lot more similarities with the new stuff an dthe stuff on Blackened Sky, which was a very grunge influenced record. Semi-mental definitely comes from the same schoolA democracy on paper, apparently well ordered, regularly subverted by irrational chaos.

I love Who's Got A Match, and I agree that it isn't typical Biffy, but I don't really think it's that commercial.
The "old" Biffy are definitely still there though. Just listen to Living Is A Problem, The Conversation Is, Sem-Mental and Get Fucked Stud.
I'm really liking Puzzle though. It's no Vertigo Of Bliss...but not many things are!~AKA Dave-of-the-dead~

Well, I finally got my hands on Puzzle and just coming to the end my second listen to it in it's entirity.
I'm not really sure what i think of it yet. At times it's brilliant, the first 3 songs are great but then it goes somewhere else that i never thought Biffy would go and that is into the realms of restraint. In fact it goes so far in this direction at times that there are moments I'd expect to find on a Busted record or summat.
I just keep waiting for them to let go in some of the songs, like come on, let it out, like they do on Vertigo and Blackened Sky but on Puzzle it rarely comes.
It's a good album but it's not the Biffy that I know and love.A democracy on paper, apparently well ordered, regularly subverted by irrational chaos.

Glad you're finally going to get to see them dave!
I'm just doing the Cardiff show as most of the tour takes place when I'm in the states.
Did you get a ticket in the presale then? They were really late putting the tickets on....just like everything to do with that webiste, it was a bit of joke!A democracy on paper, apparently well ordered, regularly subverted by irrational chaos.
