I'm a huge fan. I don't know if I could pick a favorite, maybe Frank's Wild Years or Mule Variations.

Big Time is pretty incredible. Some of those live cuts blow the originals out of the water.

You gotta love him. Few people in music are as wise as this guy. He's a personal guru. I'd recommend to any fan "Innocent when you dream", a compilation of reviews and articles about him, that really folds out his persona.
"Half of me, I feel like a jackhammer, I love to holler and stomp my feet and throw rocks. But there's another side of me that's like an old man in the corner that's had too much wine. I'm probably too sentimental for my own good sometimes"
    yeah, cheers to him!

ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS, EVVVVVVERRRRR! It's so funny to have that gravely voice singing this song that makes me think of toys-r-us -- it's just funny / cute to me. :)

When I’m lyin’ in my bed at night
    I don’t wanna grow up
Nothin’ ever seems to turn out right
    I don’t wanna grow up
How do you move in a world of fog
    That’s always changing things
Makes me wish that I could be a dog
When I see the price that you pay
    I don’t wanna grow up
I don’t ever wanna be that way
    I don’t wanna grow up

Seems like folks turn into things
    That they’d never want
The only thing to live for
    Is today...
I’m gonna put a hole in my tv set
    I don’t wanna grow up
    Open up the medicine chest
And I don’t wanna grow up
I don’t wanna have to shout it out
I don’t want my hair to fall out
I don’t wanna be filled with doubt
I don’t wanna be a good boy scout
I don’t wanna have to learn to count
I don’t wanna have the biggest amount
    I don’t wanna grow up

Well when I see my parents fight
    I don’t wanna grow up
They all go out and drinking all night
And I don’t wanna grow up
I’d rather stay here in my room
Nothin’ out there but sad and gloom
I don’t wanna live in a big old tomb
    On grand street

    When I see the 5 o’clock news
    I don’t wanna grow up
Comb their hair and shine their shoes
    I don’t wanna grow up
Stay around in my old hometown
I don’t wanna put no money down
I don’t wanna get me a big old loan
Work them fingers to the bone
    I don’t wanna float a broom
Fall in love and get married then boom
How the hell did I get here so soon
    I don’t wanna grow up

    Hail, Hail the Eyeball Kid...
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

Small Change was my first Tom Waits album, and it still is one of my favorites. This man truly is a genius.

"What does it matter, a dream of love
    Or a dream of lies
We're all gonna be in the same place
    When we die"
...the dreams ain't broken down here now,
    they're walking with a limp

    I love this line:

"All the doughnuts have names that sound like prostitutes"

Rain Dogs is probably my favorite Waits album, followed closely by Mule Variations. He's got a great way with lyrics.

fuckin love 'Swordfishtrombones', and the two kinda linked albums:'rain dogs' and 'franks wild years'.......also 'blue valentine', 'closing time' are classics. Plus 'heart of a saturday night' has some classic waits' songs on it. Have copies of many others that are like way too freaky for me, stuff like 'small change' and others I find hard to get into..............do have a copy of 'mule variations' and having heard some of yous' praise it I may give it a play when I get home

....yeh I know and love that song: 'never saw the morning till you turned out the light, never saw..................'. Probly one of my total favs of waits and it does sound like an auspicious song for a wedding dance

Anyone here has seen the movie Coffee and Cigarrettes?
The dialogue he has there with Iggy Pop is simply stelar... Tom just shines.
