Harsh maybe but there is truth in there.0
-
a) this isn't 1995, ticket prices have gone up
b) fan club members got a ticketmaster-free price
c) while i agree that $65 seemed steep for what will probably be, at most, a 1.5 hour show by Vedder, it is probably more expensive to do a short tour than it is a long tour. He will still need a crew, etc. Plus, the opener is coming from New Zealand, and he/they need to get paid.
On top of all this, let us not forget the band attempting to stay carbon neutral, the rising costs of oil (hello, $100/barrel), and the plummeting/plummeted value of the dollar.
In my opinion, everything in the world is too fucking expensive. Find something else to complain about besides concert tickets.0 -
Not a bad article... just goes to show how much things change over time....This is your notice that there is a problem with your signature. Please remove it.

oh and if you're worried about $90 tickets, maybe place blame on the company who is charging a 40% fee?
you know, rather than the guy(s) who tried to fight that company for three years.0 -
very sobbering he should read this ....jesus greets me looks just like me ....0

1995 was 13 years ago. Inflation.
The cost of gas/oil and electricity is much higher, now.
Vedder of course wants to make money. He's not in the business for the sake of just being there.
Vedder (and the rest of PJ members have been very generous in donating money to good causes and I suspect getting a tax break for it). But I think their hearts are in the right place.0 -
so $65 is too much?
shit, it is $20 to see a bad cover band... when they start charging $150 a ticket give me a call
dont forget who gets a piece of the pie... the theater and its crew's payroll, the opener and his crew, ed and his crew, ticketmaster, etc, etc ,etc
there are a lot of hands in the cookie jar0 -

Great read. As a poster above me noted, it's kind of harsh, but the truth is told. Honestly, I wouldn't mind paying $90 bucks to see Ed, the show(s) will be memorable. However since I live in Tx, I'd have to travel, and I would be broke cause of all the fees like plane, hotel, food ect.
I agree with the article, but on the contrary, I have always had this opinion on concerts: If it's too much for me I don't go, otherwise I'll try to make it work.
As long as people keep paying the ticket prices (even shows that sell $200-300 Seats) then the prices will continue to go up or stay within that range. If people quit going to shows all together (don't see it happening, but it is possible) prices will go back down. We as customers has alot of say in the matter. If we aren't paying, the money, the prices will eventually come down because TM and artists are going to want to make money.PJ: 10/14/00 06/09/03 10/4/09 11/15/13 11/16/13 10/08/14

Awesome article! I have worked in the condert industry before so i can tell you that with those ticket prices, Ed will stand to pocket close to a million dollars, and thats after paying venue, etc. His crew will consist of no more than 2 -3 guys who don't make more than $20-$30hr, plus his travel expenses will be nothing. He obviously has a right to make that kind of money, but put in context, he does not have to charge $65 a ticket. To me it seems he has finally said, "show me the money". Not bitching, just saying...0

i hope he just cancels the tour just to spite everyone/0

$65 just to see Ed is a little crazy, I couldn't believe it when I saw it, if it were the entire band, ok, its just hard to believe that they were the same band that fought against high ticket prices in the first place, however I think if they fought ticketmaster today more bands would stand behind them, as well as more fans.9/4/98, 8/4/00, 12/8/02, 12/9/02, 4/15/03, 4/16/03, 4/19/03, 4/25/03, 4/26/03, 4/28/03, 4/29/03, 4/30/03, 7/8/03, 7/9/03, 9/28/04, 9/29/04, 10/6/04, 9/1/05, 9/2/05, 5/16/06, 5/17/06, 5/27/06, 5/28/06, 5/30/06, 6/1/06, 6/3/06, 8/5/07, 6/11/08, 6/12/08, 6/14/08, 6/16/08, 6/24/08, 6/25/080

consider also, I just payed $55 for a ticket to radiohead who never tours down here, and probobly didn't profit much off their latest album, so if I could have gotten wiltern tickets both nights would have been close to $180 for a pair, I remember when I got United CEnter tickets in chicago back in 03 for $87! How much does things cost now compared to 95 for me?
95'
1) Cigs 2.10 a pack
2) 20 bucks would be good enoungh to go to the bars on Friday Night. (6 beers and a pack of smokes) change left over for tips
3) Case of Miller 9.99 at Jewel.
4) Gas was under $1.25 a gallon
Present 2k8
1) Cigs 5.00 bucks a pack
2) You need at least 40 bucks or more for a Friday Night dive bar. (6 beers and a pack of smokes) hardly anything left for a tip
3) Case of Miller 16.99 on sale
4) Gas over 3 bucks a gallon
Thank god I quit smoking and going to the bars so often.
Oh yeah ticket prices....
I paid 65 dollars to see pearl jam in soldier field for 2 tickets in 95.
Last year I paid $125 to see PJ and Tom Petty
Yeah, just about everything doubled....0 -

I think some of you are being a bit harsh and over-the-top on Vedder, here.
$65.00 is a bit high, but not ridiculously high like some of you are acting.
I don't know about anyone else, but I've been getting a feeling that PJ and Vedder have been making a strong push for the last two years with their tours and have been a bit more high profile than usuaul; and that after this they're going to disappear for quite a while.0 -
dude, $65 is not a lot of money to see the lead singer of your favorite band. i don't get all of the commo.0
-
You also have to factor in the success of PJ; The Stones charge what they do cause they are the Stones. U2, the Boss, Mellancamp....etc...all those artists/bands have "earned" the right to charge more.
And considering PJ is the only band from that era still around, I say they've earned that right as well. Plus, an Ed only show should cost more.....it's super special.

It may a be a little high, but as previous posters have pointed out, have you noticed how much higher everything is today compared to 13 years ago! Everything! Gas, oil, electricity, food, cars, books, clothes, ballgames, etc.
I would gladly cough up the $65 to see Ed if he toured anywhere around here.DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13
