The Bends.....never truly got the fuss over this record....its just a guitar record and Pablo Honey aside, Radioheads blandest and most generic....

OK Computer is a much, much richer album.....

Personally I prefer KID A and In Rainbows to both......

i definitely say the bends - one of the greatest rock albums of all time.
  • lol... I don't even see how your opinion is possible... if you think ok computer is better.. it seems as if you have to like it more.

Totally agree. This is exactly my point. I truly feel that people who say that the Bends is better than OKC is saying it to sound like they know the band better than anyone else. I can't believe how many votes the Bends got on here...it's laughable.

Ok Computer changed the face of music. It was the greatest album of the nineties and one of the greatest of all time IMHO. I used to dislike Radiohead very much but when I gave OK Computer a few more listens I fell in love. I have listened to the Bends quite a few times and it does not hit me like the other did.

I liked the Bends instantly the first time I heard it, even the weaker songs like Bones. OK computer was much more of an acquired taste for me but like a fine wine it kicked my ass once the buzz set in. It was such a departure from what had been done by Radiohead that it was unsettling, but after a couple of listens I realized its awesomeness. But I can understand how some people like the Bends better - it's a different album and I won't condemn anyone for preferring it's warm acoustic feel to OKC's harsher electronica.
I smile, but who am I kidding...

  • OK Computer just has win written all over it. That album blows my mind every time I listen to it. I can't say the same thing about The Bends.

The Bends...although it's very close for me.

I guess because it has better songs, arrangements, production and is generally an all round superior album in every single respect, showing a startling increase in maturity of songwriting and musicianship in such a short space of time.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I mean, it's not even close. My Iron Lung and Fake Plastic Trees are the only songs worth speaking of on that album. Maybe I'll throw in High and Dry. IMO, (and I know this song is a fan fav) Street Spirit is way overrated. When he sings low, it sounds out of tune and it's just repetitive arpeggios being played over and over again.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Some of the Bends songs are really good live, but the album sounds too much like something Matchbox 20 would release.
Whoa, chill bro... you know you can't raise your voice like that when the lion's here.

The music press (in the UK) jumped all over Radiohead when 'Creep' was released, then of course 'Pablo Honey' mostly sucked and the music press quickly wrote Radiohead off. 'The Bends' turned up with very little fanfare and quickly falls out of the charts - R.I.P. Radiohead - Or not quite because 'Street Spirit' gets released as the 4th single, and bang! the song huge and 'The Bends' starts selling by the bucketload, and the legend is born.

By the time 'OK Computer' is about to be released RH are once again the critical darlings of the music press - OK get lorded over sells tons and breaks them in America.

My own personal take is 'Ok Computer' is the masterpiece that set the bar for Indy rock music a bar that has yet to be surpassed - I think it's a huge shame RH themselves didn't try to better Ok Computer and instead jump of in a huge tangent and move into a different genre with Kid A. Then when they did sort of comeback to that sound it was halfhearted/halfbaked and to be honest i've found Hail and Rainbows to be 2 very average albums that live of the RH legacy rather than enhance it.

To answer the question : I prefer OK Computer. :)
