    Jimi is the best guitarist ever, as long as we aren't talking technically, without a doubt. From another planet. People who say shit like "Satriani runs rings around him" really need to reappraise why they listen to music.

    He's far from my favourite though. I'd probably give that to Sonny Sharrock, John Fahey or James Blackshaw.

    yeah, I don't know much about guitars/guitarrists/what's technically good but I love Jimi! :D

    I love John but he's a far better songwriter and all-round musician than he is a guitarist. His best albums are the ones where the lyrics and vocal melodies are to the fore. His guitar playing with the chilis is pretty limited to generic funk riffs/californication style clean rhythm parts and standard Hendrix-esque blues licks.

    Having said that, there's an amazing charm to his guitar work on his earlier, drugged-out solo albums. The lead parts on Niandra Lades and Smile from the Streets You Hold are so cool.

    well that's quite fair enough. :)

    as much as I do love Jimi, Marc Ribot is great too. as is of course Jimmy Page..

    plus me being very indecisive it's very hard to choose who I think is the all time greatest guitarist. so I pretty much always go for Jimi. :D

    I couldnt agree with you more! and as a matter of fact what I think made Stadium Arcadium such a different and fresh sounding Chili album is that fact that they let john loose...i mean..the solo on Turn it Again? wow! but I agree about his solo work..he is such as gifted musician

    Jimmy Page for me. Hendrix shreds better but I prefer Page's songs/albums....though Hendrix has many gems himself. especially on Electric Ladyland.

    The DBT guys are pretty good, and Jason who is no longer there, its all about the soul and atmosphere that they're guitar playing brings to the songs and the Truckers have an abundance of that.:)
    Theres this McCready bloke as well, he's pretty good.
    John Squire is capable of some good stuff although very much in the mould of Page.
    Fruiscante isnt too shabby nor Dimebag, Kirk Hammnet, Neil Young or Slash.
    But Hendrix is on a plateau higher than the rest.
    Can not be arsed with life no more.

    And for this generation, I'd go Derek Trucks and Davy Knowles. Both of these guys are absolutley fucking spectacular.
