Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
It'll make you see heaven.0 -
Soul Asylum - Best of the Twin Tone Years (just came out) Great underrated band, especially this early stuff. Cobain liked them.
The Replacements - Let It Be (recently remastered, I came late to this title, it is brilliant and was released in '84. A sign of things to come).
Screaming Trees - Ocean of Confusion (new compilation on Epic Legacy) - great band from that period, although like S Asylum, slightly before (87...), very influential among their peers at the time. Cobain and Mark Lanegan were best friends.0 -

Gotta love Automatic for the people.I always think of that in the same category as Ten and Nevermind. It may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

Check out Mark Lanegan's solo albums Winding Sheet and Whisky For The Holy Ghost, Tad - Inhaler and Infrared Riding Hood, Mudhoney everything is good by them you cant go wrong with Mudhoney, check out some Dinosaur Jr again there isnt such a thing as a bad Dinosaur Jr album(imo).
And if you want some real grunge check out Endino's Worm, Jack Endino's band Jack along with The Melvins and Skin Yard are what you'd call the Grandfathers of the "grunge" sound, Jack produced Nirvana's debut album Bleach which is also an essential grunge purchase. Can not be arsed with life no more.0 -

Not necessarily grunge but it was it isn't too far from Nirvana Unplugged or Vitalogy in terms of atmosphere and lyrics. It may be the devil or it may be the Lord
