  • I can't believe that there's people who never heard of Timbaland. Everytime I put on MTV, I see his face. He's everywhere! This guy represents everything that's wrong with the music business theses days

Totally, totally agree. Him and American Idol.

You're damn right he is. He even produces our candypop Dima Bilan who won on this Eurovision contest in Finland this year. He was with Plushchensko (ice-dancer) and some guy playing on a Stradivari violin. So he won not because of his crappy song but because of the show those other two put on.
It'd have been a much interesting perfomance if he shut up and didn't try to "sing" and brought bears on bicycles instead. That would have been really funny and interesting to watch.

no kidding... it wasnt that long ago that things were beginning to look MORE hopeful... i was seriously thinking his live shows last tour would be an indication of some rockin shit on his next album... his voice sounds better than ever... he was working in SG rarities like he actually gave a shit about his long time fans... and they sounded damn good and actually worked with everything else in his set! now hes dropping those to replace them with his new SHIT

Chris has always had a phenomenal voice and range. He just needs to have someone around to say "hey, you're being a big pussy." That person can be Kim Thayil, Mike McCready, even Tom Morello (even though I wasn't a huge audioslave fan). In his solo projects, up to this point, that has been sadly missed. There was some good stuff on Euphoria Morning, but it was still pretty wimpy. I really dug the acoustic tour he did and the Live In Sweden boot that circulated. I was very excited before that last album release and so very disappointed by the album. It's like Chris has this blues streak, but the instrumentaton is so vanilla that it sounds lame. Ain't got no sauce.

It'd be great if while Ed was doing this solo thing, he and Mike got together. I'm not asking for TOTD 2, but I think they would churn out some good material.

LOL. EM isn't pussy though, its Psycadellic?, blues, folk at its best.

  • the more i think about this, the less respect i have for cornell. and thats coming from somebody who has been listening to his music for over half her life, almost every day.

fans who will not be blind sided into accepting anything cornell does ...

(farting on snare drums for half an hour would be received as ground breaking new music by an element of cornell fans over on the cc board)

will not buy the album or bother to go see this tour. i for one am not going to spend hard earned cash to see a string of hits and the new stuff after witnessing seven excellent live performances from cornell, two of which rank as top five live performances.

if cornell fans think he could do better or anything close to 'riot act' at the moment, they are even more deluded than they appear to be.

Why do you have to repect him? Who respcts David Lee Roth... or Eddie Vedder for that matter? You like their great songs and respect their talents. I'd say this album still has the potential to be better than Avocado, but not Riot Act at all.

  • i meant respect cornell as a musician. which is kinda important when you're a fan of his music...

So now you don't respect him as a musician, but you respect his music from before, or not?

I just saw him play this tonight... it actually sounds normal live since he just has the band play it. It's ok.

  • def respect all music up to now. just not looking forward to explaining over and over again why the new songs arent to my liking... and to new cornell fans that they have 20 years worth of back catalogue to discover.

Just watching the Leno performance again, I just realised how repetitive Long Gone is too, it kind of goes nowhere.

The song isn't THAT bad, in terms of what it COULD have been.....in my head I can hear Chris doing it solo on an acoustic and it sounds awesome.....

    But seriously.....why Timbaland????

Why the watering down and thin nasty bleepy RnB production????

Even on Leno the backing sounds generic and emotionless......

What really sucks in all this is his band is actually really good live. Those guys have nailed the Soundgarden and Audioslave songs on tour. Why wouldn't Chris want to collaborate with those guys and make something good. Not make them suffer through songs like "Long Gone" and "Watch Out" on tour. Do you think Chris just needs the money and doesn't want to have to pay those guys for contributing on an album? Sucks for those guys.

If anyone saw him tour over the last year and a half you know what I'm talking about. Chris is in top form vocally , looks good and surrounded himself with a good band. Im guessing since Carry On tanked that he is making Scream so it will suck so bad that when he makes the next one it will look unbelievably great compared to the other turds. ?

being skilled studio musicians and writing good material is WORLDS apart... SG and audioslave songs arent THAT difficult to pull off for any good musician (especially the audioslave songs)... the real skill is in writing those songs, and i dont think cornells band right now are capable of anything of that caliber... and if any of them get it into their heads that they are then im sure chris will fire them instantly before he has a mutiny... im sure they knew what they were signing on for in advance and are just glad to be "rock stars" without any of the hassle of writing music... not to take away from them... they are good... im just not blown away enough to think chris should work with them when he could easily have his pick of ANYONE he wanted to work on a studio album, like mark lanegans super band on bubblegum... hes just an egomaniac

Well Chris did pick them out of all the people he could have chosen to play with live, not to mention that three of them are in a band together and they make pretty damn good music: http://www.myspace.com/runthroughthedesert sounds better than anything I've heard so far from Cornell's new record.

Thanks for the heads up ... will have to give them a listen. I liked Yogi's own stuff.
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

......or people just want to hear songs written by Chris Cornell.

Seriously, is it possible for people to keep their opinions of the music seperate from their opinions of the musician.

i just think it would make sense to atleast bounce ideas off your band during the writing process... even if youre a solo artist... doesnt even sound like they played on the studio stuff let alone had any say... the "egomaniac" thing was probably too much and based entirely on assumptions... i just dont think its fair to his band who signed on to this project with the same concept of chris and his music as we all had prior to this album

and thanks for the link facepollution... theyre actually pretty good

the 3 songs on their myspace are probably better than anything on Carry On and definitely better than Scream/Timbaland. Don't tell me these guys with Cornell couldn't write a decent album. Maybe not Soundgardenesque but something you could be proud of
