It was really nice to listen to as I was getting ready this morning. Much better than all that jabber on the radio.

warm weather here really has the birds raising hell in my yard! lots of bluebirds. my yard is a mockingbird factory....quite a few pairs of yellow finches...and before long, hummingbirds like bees...in the last couple of years, even a couple of pairs of quail
but one bird i discovered when i moved down here (i say down here, but really i mean from northern wake county to southeastern wake county. 25 miles away, and with a whole different terrain....the growing season is shifted two weeks earlier....the topsoil is sand instead of the red clay...a perfect environment for these:
they are awesome! large eggs...and right on the ground! i have to mark their nests with a rock or something so i don't run over them with the lawnmower. and they pull the craziest stunts trying to attract your attention away from the nests....acting hurt....displaying a wing and wimpering...right down to swooping at you if you get too close. big birds with big eggs...and they scream like seagulls all night long

on day 7 we form a posse and find JTR
It's that time of year or almost.........been hearing Song Sparrows sing around our place, and they don't breed this far south. Lots of Tufted Titmouse singing this afternoon along the Little Cahaba River. The Brown-headed Nuthatches began making nest cavities last month. We are in too urban of an area for Bluebirds around the house.
Quails!!!! Cool.....actually called Northern Bobwhites. Becoming harder to see as the coyote expands its range throughout the South. I did a quick glimpse of a covey down in Perry County, Alabama last month. I do a respectable "bobwhite" call.
Killdeers are also pretty cool birds. They love to nest on gravel, so that's why you see them in urban areas. They nest on flat roofs with gravel and such.
Any house cats around for the nesting mockingbirds to dive bomb??? If you have never seem that....it's pretty cool.

Well hopefully you wont need to send emails, and 10c will announce it first thing in the morning
Oh, and my goodness the amount of birds in my yard. My yard is apparently a breeding ground for all sorts of critters. This time of year, the trees literally sag with birds. In spring its bullfrogs. Summer brings the lightening bug swarms. If I didnt live here I would never believe it. But I am surrounded by pasture on one side and a nice winding creek on the other. Nice big yard with LOTS of old trees. Its really beautiful

Sounds wonderful...........some of you might have noticed a large influx of birds lately.......It appears to me that the northern winter storms of January & February has driven the migratory flocks of American Robins down south. They are everywhere here in Alabama, and it has been that way since January. The mildness of the early part of winter probably allowed them to stay north longer this year (as in there was food available). There are at least two distinct groups of American Robins, the ones that migrate north & south every year and the ones who live in the south year round.

The Replacements - "CAN'T HARDLY WAIT"
I'll write you a letter tomorrow
Tonight I can't hold a pen
Someone's got a stamp that I can borrow
I promise not to blow the address again
Lights that flash in the evening,
Through a crack in the drapes
Jesus rides beside me
He never buys any smokes
Hurry up, hurry up, ain't you had enough of this stuff
Ashtray floors, dirty clothes, and filthy jokes
See you're high and lonesome
Try and try and try
Lights that flash in the evening,
Through a hole in the drapes
I'll be home when I'm sleeping
I can't hardly wait
I can't wait. Hardly wait.
Congrats on 7700+ posts, gang.
