A little comparison...

Just thought I'd post these, as there have been the usual "ticket prices are great!" and "ticket prices are wayy tooo highhhhh" threads...

I'm planning on Mansfield, and here are some other ticket costs (via ticketmaster) for shows there this summer:

Rod Stewart and Eric Clapton are charging the same for their tours, as follows:

Base: $125.00
Convenience Fee: 16.15
Facility Charge: 7.00

Total: $148.15
That's for a single ticket, row W section 2 (front center section of the venue).

Tom Petty

Base: $75.00
Convenience Fee: 12.35
Facility Charge: 7.00

Total: $94.35
That's for a single ticket in the BACK of the pavillion, but still reserved seats.

For further reference, The Police are charging $225 base for their seats, I don't remember where exactly, but under the pavillion.

Of course, we don't know how much Mansfield will be, but I would urge anyone to compare that price to these (The Police notwithstanding) before jumping all over how expensive it is.

    INDEED:D 75 is not cheap but it certainly is a little lower than what the market is demanding currently, which is what this band fought for: control of prices so that they had control over how much fans would pay to see a show, the fought for $20 tix when the going rate was 40 ish, now that the going rate can be as high as illustrated above 75 is IS the band and 10C looking out for us;)

    pearl jam is charging $70-$80 a ticket because that is the MAXIMUM they can charge....and still fill the venues...

    if pearl jam even thought of charging $100-$200 a ticket.....they would be playing in front of 2000-3000 people....

    just a fact.....this band isnt anywhere near as popular as they were 10-12 years ago....

    and their album sales prove it....

    i bought a Tom Petty ticket for MSG and it was $140. Yeah. With PJ, I get two for that price.

    no if they raised prices to that level they'd just make more money. they'd still sell out their shows and people would bitch about it even more, perhaps even feeling entitled to do so because they paid that much for their seat

    what do the prices of other bands have to do with pearl jam? pearl jam is (supposedly) more about the fans than other bands, and has always tried to keep prices low, so all comparisons are mute. if you must, compare them to their peers, not classic rock artists...

    actually they probably do try to keep the ticket prices low...

    but they make up for it by selling comic books for $200...or coloring books... or whatever the fuck that book was....

    There is no way they sell out shows at $200 per ticket. Probably not even $100 per ticket. There would be empty seats a plenty at certain shows. This isn't 1992 and Ten isn't still number 2 on the charts. They haven't had a platinum album in 10 years.

    i know you're being sarcastic but Rod Stewart appeals to a much wider audience...

    People who go and see Rod Stewart will be of a wider range of people and go and see 1 show and that'll be it.

    People who go and see Pearl Jam will be of a smaller group of people and see multiple shows (well more willing to at least)... hence wanting to spend less on each show.

    Are you kidding me? They have been around forever and have huge fan bases. Tom Petty could sell out almost anywhere and it's mostly because his fan base has a huge range of age. I know people 15 who like Petty and I know people 65 who like Petty. And I think Rod had a number 1 album last year that sold millions of copies.

    Exactly, in the Ten era they were playing small arenas, now large ones, their fan base has grown AND solidified, next tour Pearl Jam should try it out, $100 tix and they WILL sell out, lol i said Pearl Jam will sell-out,lol

    people dont get that all the artist they keep bringing up who charge more than PJ keep putting out #1 Albums or are legends who have a HUGE fan base and the tickets are in high demand

    seriously what kept PJ having such a good fan base was their loyalty to their fans and putting on a good live show...the minute the fans start feeling slighted things will change

    Pearl Jam didn't even sell out night 2 at Camden or Night 2 at the Gorge in 06 and tickets were like like $62 and that was in support of a new album. And Philly and Washington State are two of their big fanbases so I find it hard to imagine that they would sell out at $100 a ticket unless they play much smaller venues.
