In Rainbows by a mile at number 1. Amazing album. After that I would say Young Modern (Silverchair), Snakes and Arrows (Rush), Zeitgeist (Pumpkins), Because of the Times (Kings of Leon, Neon Bible (Arcade Fire) in no order.
  • tough question, but here is my top 5, i think

    in rainbows - radiohead
    boxer - the national
we were dead before the ship even sank - modest mouse
    sky blue sky - wilco
because of the times - kings of leon

    honorable mentions:
ga ga ga ga ga - spoon
sound of silver - lcd soundsystem
makes much more sense to live in the present tense

    9/28/05 Pittsburgh
    6/23/06 Pittsburgh
    8/2/07 Vic
    8/5/07 Lolla
    6/16/08 Columbia

Other bands albums I have enjoyed this year after Arcade Fire and QOTSA are:

    Soulsavers ft Mark Lanegan
    Eddie Vedder
    Foo Fighters
    Kings of Leon
    Nine Inch Nails
    Smashing Pumpkins
    Nine Black alps
    Radiohead
    Arctic Monkeys.

I also discovered TV on the Radio, Nouvelle Vague, Babar Luck's album which he released last year and is awesome, amongst others good stuff.

Need to check out the new Dinosaur Jr cd and dvd, I'm sure I'll love them.:)

    era vulgaris - QOTSA
because of the times - KoL

im also currently being totally absorbed by the mess hall's sophmoric venture devils elbow. one of my fave live bands. their first album kinda disappointed me, it didnt seem to capture their live vibe, but this one is such a step up. tis a fuller, more mature sound from them. i am beyond thrilled with it. :)

Midlake - Trials of Van Occupanther

This is a closesecond in my book, but Dinosaiur JR's album kicks everything else to the kerb, in my opinion - I especially love 'It's me'.

    My top 4:
Springsteen - Magic, I'm just glad to see him back with the E Street Band.
Plant/Krauss - Raising Sand, get your best girl, turn the lights low, a couple glasses of wine and get laid.
The Cult - Birn Into This, a band not afraid to let it rock.
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible, the album of the year.

    So brutalize me with music.”

in rainbows by radiohead, and neon bible by arcade fire. i'd be hard pressed to find two more enjoyable albums as consistent from start to finish as these.
    2003 Mansfield III
    2004 Boston I
    2006 Boston I
    2008 Bonnaroo, Hartford, Mansfield I
    2010 Hartford
2013 Worcester I, Worcester II, Hartford
2016 Bonnaroo, Fenway I, Fenway II
    2018 Fenway I, Fenway II
    2021 Sea.Hear.Now
    2022 Camden
    2024 MSG I, Fenway I, Fenway II
  • Bruce Springsteen - Magic
  • You dont get ten votes, just one. Now that we are near year end pick one album that is best.

Mine - Magic (Springsteen) will sweep the Grammys.

Lots of other threads on this, but again, Arcade Fire's Neon Bible, and there isn't a close second.

when considering that funeral is better, i am hard-pressed to think that neon bible is the best record this year...
