Open Petition: Communicate with us!

Hey,
I just need to vent for a moment here. Why is it that all of the information I've received regarding Pearl Jam's new album has come from sources other than pearljam.com/Ten Club? I think that as Ten Club members we've all come to understand that the Christmas single is released sometime before summer and that the Deep magazine will contain whatever random information it will and sometimes no solid information at all. These are things we all know and love about being in the Ten Club...the eccentricities, if you will. But what happened on the communication front regarding the release of the new album and possible tour dates? Why did I have to learn from RollingStone that Pearl Jam was going to be working with Brendan O'Brien on the new album? Why, OH GOD WHY, did I have to learn from PerezHilton.com that they will be working with Target to distribute the album? Why is it that my friends (who are NOT Pearl Jam fans), know about Pearl Jam playing festivals in San Francisco and Austin before I do? I mean, honestly! I feel like we're getting left in the dark and it's really starting to bother me.
As far as the tour goes, I would like to be able to plan my life more than 2 weeks in advance and I'd like to optimize the amount of shows I'm able to go to. Is it that things are unorganized at this point? If so, TELL US! Is it that the Ten Club is short-staffed? If that's the case, I'm a highly organized and intelligent individual who would love to leave my current position in the insurance industry to help out the band I've loved since my youth
Let me know and I'll send you my resume and then we can get the tour planned and start rocking out. Who's with me?!
All I'm asking for is to learn things straight from the club I pay an annual membership fee to be a part of. Don't leave out the people who have built you up.
That's all I've got for now. I'm looking forward to the shows I hope will happen.

I agree, it would be really nice if there was more communication and less censorship.

Still looking forward to the album and tour, but I just spent a bunch of my Pearl Jam tour budget planning a trip to see Wilco at Red Rocks. I've been enjoying the new Wilco album since the day it leaked, and I'm happy they want me to have it, and yes, I will be donating to the Inspiration Corporation as they requested. Way to be cool and down with the new program, Wilco.
Pearl Jam, guess I'll see your album in my mailbox sometime, but you sure are making it hard to get excited about it.

Also, good luck doing a better job for cheaper - I'm about as good as it gets as far as cost/benefit analysis works
Have a great time at Red Rocks, Melissa! I'm not into Wilco but I'm very lucky to live in a state with such an amazing venue.

First off, it's crystal clear to me that the band's official mgmt/website would be the last to announce things, as it's their news to announce, and they want to wait until everything's official -- K-Rock and Stereogum and your sister's hairdresser are under no such obligation.
But moreover...who gives a shit? Isn't the story that we have this great website here on which all sorts of info can be found?
Trying giving the band and its management the freaking benefit of the doubt once in a while. Why not focus on all they do for us, rather than bash them for not rushing news out?

I agree with your stance to a degree. However, simple lines of communication would deflate a lot of speculation and rumors. There's a curve in this modern day society and they're having a hard time staying ahead of it.
Enigmatic messages don't count.

I don't think the band should have to address every bit of speculation/rumor, and even if it did, I think it's more likely than not that it would lead to more bitching and confusion. Pissing into the wind, yeah?
In any case, they've earned the benefit of my doubt many times over.

Yes, you're probably right. However, the Rumor Pits were nice and it seems communication between the band (PR Folks) and the fans has declined over the years. Just an observation.
The internet has killed a lot of the fun, so I guess we're all to blame in that respect.

Agreed.

I'm not asking the band to respond to every rumor. I'm asking the band to release news directly to fans so that we are in the know. I'm just asking for tour dates, mainly.

They get better control and wider exposure if they hand out the story to their chosen media.

When the information becomes official, they do.
Are you suggesting they wait just to mess with us?
