Keep in mind, neither NBC nor the Tonight Show staff have any control over which songs PJ play. a Tonight Show staffer likely assumed, having researched the band's discography, that the band would be playing material from their most recent commercial release, and updated the episode guide to reflect that,...

for the record, there's ZERO chance of the band playing Brother on the Tonight Show!

    i second this.

Would people actually complain if Pearl Jam played Brother life for the first time in almost 20 years? I mean, really?

yea, but the press release didn't just say "songs", it said "songs from their upcoming studio album".

that's from the band's website, so i would think their info would be pretty solid.

    then again...
i'm more a fan of popular bands.. like the bee-gees, pearl jam

    BALLS!!!!

Conan is the biggest appearance of the bands career. Most of the viewers of this show -and there will be alot of them tonight- haven't heard the band since TEN... they are not Pearl Jam fans, and basically think Pearl Jam is just some flannel wearing relic from the 1990's.

If they come on tonight and play a bunch of crap from 20 years ago, they are going to look like nothing more than some pathetic washed up 40 year old nostalgia act. It would be a disasterous move.

They have a perfect opportunity tonight to debut 1 or 2 kick ass tunes from their new album to show the world that they are still very much a relevant band.

If they wanted to play TEN songs they should have done that shit 20 years ago on the goddamn Tonight Show.

    PLAY NEW SONGS!!!

    agreed

it would be a massively wasted opportunity.

alot of people who think pearl jam have done nothing since 1992 will be watching the premier of Conan, and playing songs from Ten is gonna prove(to those people) that they have done nothing since Ten

Well, the website here did say something new, but changes have also been made at the last minute before...

So, I guess we won't know until tonight what they'll play. :geek:

I've got to assume this isn't accurate.

    Look at it this way.

They are making a new album set to be released sometime this year - this we know for sure. We know they've played the new songs before, as we've all heard the shitty quality from the Target filming....They are playing some decent festivals and they have lined up some shows this summer with pretty much 100% assumptions there will more shows added...Why would they come out and play something from Ten? Everyone alive has heard Ten - it's one of the biggest albums of all time. I think they just don't really know what to put there so they put that, I would be willing to bet a large sum of money that they will NOT play something from Ten.

I'm surprised it took until the second page for someone to finally say this. Obviously, the Tonight Show website is wrong. Obviously, they are confused and think Ten is the "upcoming album."

I mean, it couldn't be more obvious. They aren't gonna play Even Flow ... and they sure as FUCK aren't going to play Brother.

Ok ok.. I think we get both? one oldie and two newies? so, as you said, people would go "oh, that's Pearl Jam" and then "wow, they're still ticking!"

Maybe this is just so people recognize them and make the connection

That would make sense if they did that...if I were to consider the marketing method of getting out to the larger audience who most likely to know only the old history of the band, then I'd do this to make the connection.

You know how a lot of people introduce themselves in the beginning by briefly explaining their history to establish credibility and/or recognition before introducing a new concept or product.

That said, I am all for it because hopefully that will reduce the common statements: "They're still together?", "They're still alive?", "I didn't know they were still playing music..." and so on.

Ah, who knows...but I really hope they will play new songs and yes things do change for whatever reasons. I hope in this case, they stuck to their original plan of playing new songs! Yes, at least one new song!

So looking forward to tonight!!!

Chill people, they will play new songs. I bet the guy that made that episode guide just took the latest release and put it there. On thursday the John Mayer Trio is the musical guest and I doubt they'll play something off of a 4 years old live album. "Try" is just the latest (and only) release under the name "John Mayer Trio" and thats why it is displayed there. And even if the guy knew PJ is going to play new songs, what should he put there? A big question mark or what?

This is pretty much what I was going to say. There's no cover art or title for the new album yet. Keep in mind that "Pearl Jam will perform songs from their upcoming studio album" was in the press release put out by NBC.

If i was a betting man, and if its true that we are going to get 2 songs, then my guess would be 1 old and 1 new.

First song being the new single, likely theone filmed the other day.

Second song being something from the Ten era, maybe even a Conan request.
