who is your favorite PJ band member and why?
I got to thinking the other day how people go about choosing or "favoring" certain band members more than others, and how subconscious a thing it can be. for instance, when I started getting into Pearl Jam, Eddie is the one who really got me listening. it's like when you even hear a band's name, which member do you automatically associate it with in the back of your mind? when you hear the name Led Zeppelin, do you think of Robert Plant or Jimmy Page? when you hear someone mention The Who, do you think of Pete Townsend or Roger Daltrey? or could Keith Moon even be the "star of the band" to you? no matter what band it is, I've always been more drawn and focused on the people who front them. just like when I think of Pearl Jam, I think of what originally got me thinking they were cool and what I thought was distinct about them upon initially hearing anything by them, and that was the uniqueness of Eddie's voice. maybe it's different for others, especially those who play instruments. for you bass players, is Jeff your main man? for you drummers, are you constantly watching Matt during live performances? I myself don't play any instruments. if I were ever part of a band, I know I'd be the singer. singing is where it's at for me, although I would like to learn how to play the drums someday. maybe that's why I always tend to favor the singers of all the bands I like, because their job in the band is the one that personally inspires me the most. that's not to say I don't think the other musicians deserve equal credit because they are just as much a part of it as anything, but do you get what I'm saying? another example, if I were given the chance to meet anyone from the band, it'd be Eddie. but doesn't it always seem like the singer of any band is the one who ends up having the most spotlight put on them, the most media attention, etc. have you ever heard of a band where the drummer or bass player is the actual "star" of the group? maybe I'm just not thinking, but I can't really think of any. do you understand what I'm saying, though?

I'd like to meet them all, have a few beers, etc.
I think I find Ed, Matt and Stone to be the most intriguing...for different reasons.
And to go into what you were saying about who do people think about when they think Pearl Jam, it would have to be Eddie. This is Eddie's band without him there would be absolutely no way they could go on. Where, as much as I hate to say it, they could go on without any one of the other members. Not saying they'd be nearly as good or that they would ever do that, but they could.
Why? There are several reasons, but mostly because I believe he is genuine.
