Any must see & do suggestions from Seattle to San Fran?

I'm considering a road trip from Seattle to San Francisco, with a HUGE desire to see some Redwoods along the way....

There's a good chance I'll fly in and out of Seattle so I'm thinking I'll drive down to San Fran along the coast and then back to Seattle along the major highway. Any suggestions on what spots I should hit along the way?

And if I decide to fly into Seattle and out of San Fran, I'm assuming, but not sure, that the best (meaning most scenic, most enjoyable, more interesting places to see along the way, etc.) way to go would be the coastal route. Agree? Disagree?

a few years ago my friends did a drive up the coast from san diego to seattle. we planned on having a quick stopover in portland but ended up staying for a whole weekend. it is definitely worth spending some time there - beautiful city! the redwood drive was also pretty amazing.

Definitely do the coastal route. The Oregon coast is beautiful, we usually cut in at Astoria when driving to Eureka every year. It's quite a drive, you're looking at 16 hours or so, so you may want to return using I-5 which would still be about 12 hours. Have fun! :)
