Band closes out decade with a punch

Recently reading the blog by the lucky British journalist who has already heard the new album, I'm assuming the band is giving us the 1-2 punch to finish off the decade. Describing it as ever punchy, I think it will be filled w/ punchy songs filled w/ joy & hope for the future hence the end of the Bush administration...

he means the other way around... they wrote happy songs because Bush left
-good solid rock songs that are catchy and punch you in the face-
"I Can't Explain" was once described as being a "punchy song"
The odd thing is that I've always associated the word"Punchy" as being something that describes former boxers who have taken too many hard blows to the head...like say... Ali or Rocky Balboa.
So who knows...maybe the album is derranged, slow, and disoriented.
I guess we'll find out on Monday what this guy means by "Punchy" .
They need to step it up a notch; I’d like to see Stone write some catchy snappy hooks and a more riff driven album. There needs to be more jamming give the songs so life, let it build, nasty drum fills. Enough of this quirky shit like "Rival" or "Help help".
I also think Jeff should be writing some killer Bass grooves which the music can progress off of.
Let Ed write all of the lyrics, he needs to really put his heart into singing for this to be a successful record. I thought Avocado was a big achievement vocally compared to the boring ass Riot Act and the so so Binaural (vocal) efforts.

I was having the same nagging question and then I put on the Nagoya bootleg from 03. The revelation hit me hard and made me smile. BRAIN OF J is PUNCHY!!!!!!!!!

The ONLY thing better than a glass of beer is tea with Miss McGill
A protuberance of flesh above the waistband of a tight pair of trousers
Thankfully, I don't think it will be.
I think some of you seem to believe who is in the White House has some grand effect on every song Pearl Jam writes. Every song on Avocado could have been written during the Clinton administration but one. Or maybe two.
for the least they could possibly do
I chuckled at that. hahaha

I'm the other way around. I'd rather have something more mellow, with just a couple of rockers. Something No Code-ish.
I agree about the lyrics, though. Let Ed write them all. Just because he's better at than anyone else (possibly) in the world. Some of the songs the others write (cough, Inside Job, cough) sound like something I wrote in 10th grade English class.
for the least they could possibly do
youre first thoughts, that would be my impression from it.
sounds good!
but sure, even with boxing, tied to music.....'punchy'...as in, bringing in that one, two punch, a hook......it all ties together........;) and sure, i can't explain does indeed sound punchy!
and you're right too, like many words, 'punchy' has various meanings, depending on it's usage. but sure, while drinking.....there's always 'being punchy'/'punch drunk' to describe the behavior of movement of a boxer, and sure...sometimes a drunk. :P
Let's just breathe...
I am myself like you somehow
WHAT??
You'd better unscrew your head and check your wiring.
"Rival" kicks all kinds of ass.
I'd sell my soul to get another rockin' ear fucker like that one!!
