Travel Costs -- East to West Coast

Hey everyone,

As one of the many East Coast fans worried about not seeing a show this year, I need to gather some data on flight/hotel prices. I should've jumped on the Chicago shows, but chose to wait for the Boston/Hartord/NY shows that may have followed. Now that there is doubt....I'm thinking of jumping on a West Coats trip. I'm looking for any "East Coasters" that have travelled from Boston to the West for some shows....and found good deals. For example reasonable flights and hotels. I'm not picky where I go...but need the money to be right in order to pull this off. Especially if they decide to play here this year.......and I need to pull off four more shows. :>)

just use priceline and hotwire- both very good sites that can give you an idea. Just pick a weekend in October and just see how much it will be.

    What he said.

flights are DIRT CHEAP right now. And Priceline deals are ridiculous. I can't believe how cheap my Chicago trip is going to be.

Virgin America is a great airline to go through with the East-West trips. Priceline might be cheaper though. I'd check out Virgin Air though.. they only serve like 8 airports and their prices are real low as a result.

if you wait until after the tour is confirmed and you're semi-flexible on where exactly you fly out of/to you can use http://www.airfarewatchdog.com. they list unusually low fares that are often unadvertised and have a search function for both departure/destination airports.

It is kind of hard to answer this not knowing what city they will be at. I use http://www.lowestfare.com (to get ideas) and then go directly to the airline. I never buy airline tickets from the non airline sites. It is a huge hassle if any thing needs changed and you don't save more than $10 to $15. I also go to the airport website that I am flying to and see what airlines go there. Then I check out their web sites. Southwest and Virgin have good deals and sometimes Frontier. There are great deals on all the airlines now. It is always cheaper to fly on a Tuesday or Wednesday. I found a ticket for my daughter from San Francisco to DC for $220 round trip last month. It is possible if you do some work.

Thanks for the help everyone! I found Chicago fligfhts for about $220...that seems pretty good. I'll so a search on some random west coast spots using these sites. Thanks again!

Once you know where you are going or at least the possibilities, I recommend looking at farecast.com. While its aggregator is no better than any other site, it also gives you the probability that the price will increase or decrease. It is great to use that feature when you have several months before your travel date and are in no rush to buy.
