I don't really ever post on boads, but I didn't want anybody else to get ripped off by this guy. I missed the presale for the 1st Chicago show so I've been looking here for tix and on skyiscrape. Like and idiot I went on craigslist and some guy who says his name is Ryan Peters posted he had 4 tix in sec 2 Row 7 seats 14,15,16,17. So I emailed him he emailed me back I sent him $250 via Western Union last Friday. I know the money got picked up on Saturday. Here is the address he gave me where he wanted the money sent via western union:

Ryan Peters
1109 SASKATCHEWAN AVE
Portage La Prairie, Manitoba
R1N 0R2
Canada

I have received no communication with the guy since I sent the money so I googled him and I found out he was doing this same thing for Green Day tix. I don't know if that was recently or in the past but it was the exact same address. Just don't want anyone else to get beat out of money but this guy. I should have never went on craigslist, but at the same time this guy stole $250 from me.

I hope you end up getting tickets or your money back, but in the future, NEVER EVER EVER wire money to someone. insist on PayPal or find your tickets elsewhere. and if it sounds too good to be true...you know the rest...

Why would you transfer money via Western Union? Doesn't that scream scam? I suppose it could've been worse, his address could've been in Nigeria!

Craigslist is a great way to buy/sell items - when used correctly. The whole purpose behind craigslist, when it was conceived, was that by sellers and buyers being in the same location, risk is reduced for both parties. As previously mentioned, Western Union + craigslist = SCAM. I got close to doing the same thing for a PlayStation 3, and did not proceed when he told me that he'd deliver once I did a wire transfer through Western Union. Instead, I sent him an email - something along the lines of "you are the scum of the planet for wanting to rip innocent people off. I hope you rot in jail one day". I personally didn't think it was too harsh.

Contact the RCMP in Manitoba with the information that you have.

He would have needed ID to get the money so there appears to be absolutely no way that he could get away with this. Also, contact Western Union and report his name.

Never wire money over craigslist, especially to someone in a different city from the posting. There are warnings about that ALL OVER the craigslist page. I only buy hard tickets, in person.

    I second that.

There's a section 2 in the United Center?
Unless that was referring to the floor, there's no section lower than 100.

And even if they are floor seats, $250 for 4 tickets?
That's less than face+fees. Too good to be true.

Those should have been warning signs. Remember to do your homework when buying tickets. You'll always get burned by buying tickets in BS sections for less than face - no matter what story they tell on CL.

Western Union. case closed. NEVER send money that way. sorry to hear you got scammed, I'd report him to the police.

although i agree you should report it to the police ... they won't likely act because theft under $5,000 is very low on their priority scale and doesn't usually end up in jail time ...

couldn't you still take this to small clam's court? there still is a case under law.

you'd have to know who the guy is ... he would have to be "served" the papers ... on top of that - it'll cost a pretty penny to go to portage la prairie ... unfortunately these scams work for a reason ...

I got ripped off by this guy back in November of 08 for some KoL tickets. It's not his real name and he doesn't live in Manitoba. He lives in Hamilton and he's been doing this for a long time. Here is an e-mail I received form a girl who also got ripped off on craigslist from this guy:
    Hi,
I too got scammed by him. His real name is Shaun Nixon, contact Detective Craig Parmenter of the Hamilton Police department as he is the one that arrested the Scum. He has a criminal record and has been scamming people for tickets for a long time from what I was able to search for. He also goes by the names Trevor Langley, Shawn Nickson, Shaun Nickson and Ryan Dunn possibly also Shane Dickerson.

I have not looked into it as I only got ripped off a little ($60) and I figured it was too late now to do anything about it but if you want to try, all the power to you. Hope this helps. Good luck.

    -DMW

EDIT: He was going by the name of Ryan Dunn when he ripped me off...

never ever use Western Union. Even Craigslist has a warning not to use Western Union. It's the same as mailing an envelope with cash to him.

    From Craigslist:

You can sidestep would-be scammers by following these common-sense rules:

    * DEAL LOCALLY WITH FOLKS YOU CAN MEET IN PERSON - follow this one simple rule and you will avoid 99% of the scam attempts on craigslist.
    * NEVER WIRE FUNDS VIA WESTERN UNION, MONEYGRAM or any other wire service - anyone who asks you to do so is a scammer.
    * FAKE CASHIER CHECKS & MONEY ORDERS ARE COMMON, and BANKS WILL CASH THEM AND THEN HOLD YOU RESPONSIBLE when the fake is discovered weeks later.
    * CRAIGSLIST IS NOT INVOLVED IN ANY TRANSACTION, and does not handle payments, guarantee transactions, provide escrow services, or offer "buyer protection" or "seller certification"
    * NEVER GIVE OUT FINANCIAL INFORMATION (bank account number, social security number, eBay/PayPal info, etc.)
    * AVOID DEALS INVOLVING SHIPPING OR ESCROW SERVICES and know that ONLY A SCAMMER WILL "GUARANTEE" YOUR TRANSACTION.

It was pretty obvious that it was a scam from the beginning, you should really be more careful. Craigslist has warnings about all of the things that you did. I've used Craigslist many times and I've never had any problems.

i sold an ipod touch on craigslist. i had the buyer use craiglist
the money was pending in my account so i shipped it
turns out pending is different than an actual payment. the lady at craigslist called it a "ghost payment"
anyways as soon i sent the tracking number the money was gone...only 400 bucks

but seriously..who the fuck uses western union!? ;)
