LENO LEAVES WITHOUT TEARS- Pearl Jam mention

LENO Leaves Without Tears
THE last time the host of "The Tonight Show" left, it was like a week of national mourning.
But back in 1992, Johnny Carson was going into retirement after 30 years as host -- pretty much never to be seen again.
This week, Jay Leno, the host who took over for Carson, is leaving -- but he's not going anywhere.
Leno's last show is set for Friday night, with James Taylor and (get this!) Conan O'Brien, the man who will be replacing him, as his final guests.
NBC has not even tried to promote the final Leno shows as the end of an era.
It is more like when the presidency gets handed off seamlessly on Inauguration Day; all the TV commentators marvel at how we're the only country who does this sort of thing without bloodshed.
Which wasn't true the last time the "Tonight Show" chair changed hands.
It took a long, drawn-out battle with David Letterman before Leno was declared the winner. The bitter feelings between the two men still haven't subsided.
NBC is determined not to let that happen again. That's why this whole transition has been so low-key and practically soundless.
Conan's first week of guests, just announced, was all top stars but could hardly have been less surprising -- Tom Hanks, Will Ferrell, Pearl Jam, Green Day and Ryan Seacrest.
The only surprise: a band called Chickenfoot.
Go look them up. It's really Van Halen 2.0, with Sammy Hagar as lead singer.
Leno, meanwhile, will be back in September to anchor a 10 p.m. comedy show five nights a week. He's not even moving studios.

I just hope Con-dog doesn't have to tone it back much for the earlier slot.
This is prolly gonna get moved, since it has 000 to do with PJ
Hmmm... Chickenfoot has Chad Smith in it. And with Will Farrell and Jeff Ament on the show that week too... maybe we'll see a "separated at birth" between all three of them on one of the shows...

I've spent so many years in question
To find I'd known this all along.
that would be awesome! i was telling someone how similar they look recently, and was hoping that they do something like this. i dunno, i think it'd be funny.
a beacon on dry land
eyes above the horizon
in the dark before the dawn..."
"i am a donut"
 that's the only thing i want, so much!
Better idea!! Thanks!!! Then you could post right after with some more bright ideas!!!
Eddie was just on ESPN!!! Clips of him singing at Wrigley! YAY!!!
The old crowd that was still hanging on to Leno's outdated humor won't take a liking to Conan or Dave.
Im more stoked for pj of course but i hear chickenfoot is cool live.

I was just giving you shit since it was 21 and over
I disagree with Leno being better. Leno isn't terrible by any means, but he isn't very funny and is too toned down in material or even mood and style. Letterman, even at the same time slot, pushes the envelope quite a bit, and is consistently funny.
I DO agree with you in that I hope Conan doesn't have to turn down the humor and generally more mature nature of his show because of the earlier time slot. In my opinion, he's the best of the late night hosts, always entertaining, and the fact that he has such an amazing first night, and I'm not going to even get into the amazing first week, it shows how much people like, dare I say it, love, Conan.
I do hope Conan succeeds in his new time slot because the guy is awesome. I saw his show live about 10 times over the time he's been there... he's always funny and entertaining and keeps everything moving along at a great pace.
The one thing that worries me is he won't be able to do a lot of the off the cuff stuff he used to do due to the time slot... it will bring him to a wider audience though, which is cool. He surely deserves it and NBC made a great move to compete with Letterman b/c Leno has been bad for a long time now.
