WTF??? I just deleted EVERY song on my ipod!

It's all good now, but I wish someone could explain what happened....

Yesterday, I took a 30 second "movie" with my wife's camera. I wanted to put it on my ipod Touch to take to a party. I put the movie in the iphoto album that is synced to my Touch. Some pictures went onto the Touch, but no movie. Then I went to the "movies" tab over the ipod screen with the capacity bar and all that stuff. It asked "do you want to sync ALL movies?" or something to that effect. I didn't want ALL movies, so I picked "most recent" figuring that had to be the one (I don't even know what they mean by "movies"....30 second homemades or real movies).

I hit "sync" or "apply" or whatever and 3 minutes later every last one of my 1800 songs was gone. It took me 2 hours of dragging and dropping to get all the music back.

:?: WTF happened?!?!?!? Was there an easy way to get back to where I was? :?:

Also, I never did get the little movie on there.... Any help here would be appreciated, as well.
If I had known then what I know now...

Not too sure, but it sounds like its a settings thing when syncing. Before you sync, uncheck "sync music" under music in Itunes. And make sure "manually manage music and videos" are checked off

there is no easy way to get back to where you were- unless you had different playlists set up in itunes. Then you can just drag and drop them back onto your ipod.

...Ahh- I just tried with my ipod to sync some movies and got and error message "sure you want to sync? All music and movies will be deleated and replaced with movies on your iTunes library"- That was what happened.
Sorry don't know how to add the movie without wiping the drive. Will ask the hubby when he gets home.

DId you try just dragging the movie into itunes and then drag that onto your ipod?

Thanks for the input. Yeah, I tried dragging the movie from the desktop onto the Touch and also into the movies folder in itunes. Both times, it did the 'ol "two magnets opposing each other" rejection.

And, yeah, last night I created one gigantic playlist of everything I want on the ipod. That way, the next time I f**k up at least it'll be easy to get my music back  .

I'm at work right now  , but it's just a 30 sec video, taken with a low tech digital camera.

Ok, this is what he told me ...

You need to make the movie compatible for the iPod touch. If the movie can be opened with Quicktime, then you can export the movie using the "movie to iPhone" setting. Then you can add the movie to Itunes with the "add movie to Library" in the file menu of iTunes. This does require Quicktime Pro, and if you don't have it- its $29.00 or you can find a code somewhere online. There are other 3rd party apps that do the same thing, but you can look through Versiontracker.com to find them.

    hope this helps.

It can be opened in Quicktime. The Apple store told me today to move it to iMovie. I'm not even sure I have iMovie. I'll play around with it. Thanks for all your help! :D
