Pearl Jam started playing as a band in 1990. They toured A LOT before releasing Ten in 1991. They also celebrated their 10th anniversary in October 2000. So why do we read articles about their 20th anniversary in 2011? I just saw on imdb.net they will release a documentary in 2011: "A documentary on the band Pearl Jam that marks their 20th anniversary in the year 2011"

So, when is PJ's 20th anniversary? 2010 or 2011?
2000 Ljubljana
2006 Vienna, Zagreb

In 2000 it started in 1990, but maybe since they are talkin of the rereleases and stuff they are goin by the Ten release date, now. Starts with their 1st album release for RnR HoF, too.

    hehe...deja vu! :D
you answered your question within your very first sentence. they started as a band in 1990....they were NOT pearl jam until 1991. cannot celebrate being 'pearl jam' until the name actually existed....

    from that 'other' thread......

    1. the band known as pearl jam formed as mookie blaylock in 1990.
    2. the band pearl jam had a 10th anniversary show 10.22.2000 to celebrate their very first SHOW together, as mookie blaylock.
    3. therefore, their 20th anniversary celebration of being PEARL JAM will occur in 2011...20 years after they actually became PEARL JAM.

Which DATE did they begin using "Pearl Jam"?

    I thought it was:

    Pearl Jam 20th Anniversary = 2010

    Ten album 20th Anniversary = 2011

    VS album 20th Anniversary = 2013

    Vitalogy album 20th Anniversary = 2014

    etc....

And are we celebrating "the band and the music" or "the name"?
I thought their anniversary was 2010. Maybe they want to seem younger than they are?
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

in the other thread linked above, a few people have stated march or may? 1991 was the first usage of the name pearl jam. their 10th anniversary show was in fact in celebration of their first show together, as a band, as mookie blaylock....they were NOT pearl jam then. so pearl jam and ten, both are celebrated, officially, in 2011.

All I see is that it's going to cost me a fortune if they decide to re-release all their albums the same way as Ten... My bank account is crying right now!

Regardless of what is officially stated by anyone, I'll always use October 2010 as their 20th b-day.

Also, if we celebrate Mookie Blaylock's first performance and then PJ's first named peformance/release, then we should also celebrate Piss Bottle Men's 20th b-day. Right?

    PBM 20th b-day in 2015.

The band called the 2000 tour their "10th anniversary."

I'm no math whiz, but I'd assume that would make 2010 their 20th.

    03/10/91 - KISW: Seattle, WA (Ed & Jeff) [5m]
notes: Ed and Jeff announce that the band is now called Pearl Jam on KISW’s New Music Hour. They say they are going into the studio the following day and the ‘Release’ and ‘Once’ demos are played.
