Biggest PJ Score Ever!

edited May 2009 in The Porch
On my way home from work yesterday, and for no real reason, I decided to stop by Best Buy and just look around. When I first walked in I noticed they had set up a table with about 6 boxes full of vinyl. I started digging through them, and came upon a copy of the Super Deluxe Ten reissue. The outer wrapping was missing so I dug through it to make sure nothing was missing. After realizing that everything was there I found a manager and asked her about a price, since there was no sticker or barcode on the case.

She took it to the back for what seemed like five minutes (a long time to sit and wait) before she came back. She told me that they shouldn’t even have this in the store because it was an Internet only item and she had no clue as to why they had it in the store and for sale. Then she informed me that if I wanted to buy it she would give it to me with a discount since it was opened. Then she said the words that I will forever hear in my mind, “The normal price is $24.00, so I can give you 20% off of that”.

Long story short, I walked out of the store with the super deluxe reissue for $19.

This kind of stuff never happens to me.

This poses the age old question: if you take advantage of stupid people's mistakes to receive material gain, is this stealing?

this is not stealing.... if it's opened, it is essentially worthless to best buy.. they do not deal in used merch... great work on your part!

fair enough, but $24 wasn't the original price. I call this rationalization.

Nice. Who cares if you got it for $24. Its not like Best Buy is a struggling small business. They will survive. And Im sure they are more than happy to get it out of there inventory, especially something thats opened and they said was not supposed to be there anyway.

This. As someone who used to work in their Media section, it's almost worth the (unknowing) hit they took on it just because it's gone and they don't have to deal with it anymore.

I got a similarly great deal on the Beatles Anthology dvd's a few years ago. The sticker on the outside said $69.99 and it rang up at $9.99 at the register. It was the only thing I was buyin so they called a manager and they "had" to sell it to me for the low price.

Also, got a $140 ipod dock for $25, b/c they were in the wrong spot.

The best part of both is that it was at WalMart.

    I'd feel ok with that.

She said “The normal price is $24.00, so I can give you 20% off of that”. Who's to say what the REAL price is anyway. So many prices when the thing was released.

Plus, you WERE buying an opened, potentially used item anyway.

Enjoy the hell out of it!

ps: PLUS it was a manager, AND they took their time looking it up - and after all that, THEY offered you a price.

You have no reason to feel guilty. :)
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

reminds me of a time in high school... oh 12 years ago, i went into this small indie record store in the east village and bought the pearl jam dissident 3 cd/atlanta set for $20...i think the girl was high, because not only did she NOT take the money from my hand (which was out and in plain view the entire time)... BUT SHE ALSO GAVE ME BACK ABOUT $13 IN CHANGE. so not only did i get part of atlanta 94 for free, but i got $13...
it's largely due to eddie that i liked to jump off of things as a child...

Believe me, I had just about the biggest grin possible without looking like a drooling idiot. I guess she just thought I was excited about buying it.

If there is one crime that I can't stand it's stealing. I've been the victim of theivery a couple of times. I work very hard so I can afford the things I want and for someone to just take it makes me sick. I'm a shooting robbers supporter. Having said that, I didn't feel guilty in any way, shape, or form about buying this for $19. The manager gave me the price that she wanted for the product, and even gave me a discount without me having to ask for it. As for the actual value of it, that's not relevant, because honestly I would have paid way more than $150. To me, it's worth at least $300, because of how cool it is. That doesn't mean I would have sent 10 club $300, I'll pay whatever they ask. Which is exactly what I did.

Not only did I not have any trouble sleeping, but I actually slept really great last night. Probably because I was so worn out from humping the air, Beavis and Butthead style, the whole hour drive home  !

If I went to my Best Buy after hearing this GREAT TALE, and removed the cellophane from one of the 2 SD s they have, and then got the same dumb deal.....THAT would be stealing...hmmm...strange though, I was going to buy a pair of speakers at BB a few weeks back, and they only had a damaged box, yet since the speakers were not visibly damaged, they wouldnt knock anything off of the price...I said to the idiot "this box was obviously crushed forcefully, how do I know there is no internal damage?" the prick said "it is your decision to buy them or not" so to me, this is a Robin Hood story! LOVE IT!
