Question for Boston / New Englanders

I guess its really a question for boston & mass residents...

I'm doing a little research...in your opinion, is there an area or region or boston & mass. with the most music fans? Is there one area that attracts the music masses? My first thought was Cambridge??
Second, within this area or region are there a surplus of live music venue's? Preferably small music bar/clubs rather than house of blues or something on that level.

thnx

There's not really one concentrated area.
Lansdowne Street has the new House of Blues, it used to actually have more music clubs with Avalon, Axis, Jake Ivory's and at one time Aerosmith's Mama Kin.

As for smaller clubs, Cambridge still has a decent scene with clubs like TT the Bears and The Middle East, both near Central Square.

Allston used to be a good locale as well, still has a couple of places like Harper's Ferry, but has seen some close over the years like Bunratty's.

I'm sure some of the college age Pit members will have some additional info.
    This weekend we rock Portland
  • Thanks for the feedback. Yea, im familiar with all those places and areas.
I was just kinda wondering, ...like manhattan for example; the majority of the music scene lies within the lower east side. But boston feels to be a bit more spread in regards to that.

Worcester, hands down. We have the best death metal bands and assortment of cover bands. You can find something every night of the week. May I recommend Flock of Assholes?

Northampton has some good venues for live music. Check out the link below for evidence.

agree with all of this...fenway/cambridge for boston, worcester is a bit more metal, and northampton is a mix of everything but on a smaller scale.
I love to turn you on
  • thanks everyone!

So in regards to cambridge/boston.....would you say a new rock n roll club/venue would be welcomed? OR is it the last thing the area needs due to competition etc???

I guess it depends on what kind of bar and music. There is something for everyone around here. Are you looking to start something different?

  • Venues are all over the place in MA-Part of the reason why I think I will never move out of the state-we have large venues and small venues it is great.
