Agreed. I have been in love with this band since 1992, more than half my life...i have greatly enjoyed every single album they have ever released, but how could i honestly say that the last 3 albums have had anywhere near the same type of impact on me as the first 3?

I do think that Self titled was a step above the previous 2 records, and i am excited to see what Ed brings to the table after Into the Wild and those amazing solo shows.

I'll probably be the only one to say that I hope the new album doesn't go too far into the Into The WIld approach...while that was a great effort by Ed, and I would never say I dislike it... but I think it was a little mediocre...I mean, yeah it's great and all in it's folkiness...but the whole band playing that way? It just seems too limited to me...

All I'm saying is that I don't think Ed could continue a solo career with all his albums sounding like Into The Wild...it just gets old...

Sorry guys, I know there are a lot of Into The Wild adorers on here.

What's old is their attempts at punk. I'll take them going a laid back acoustic route over another batch of gods' dice, evacuation, grievance, green disease, save you, ghost, cropduster, get right, comatose, big wave, etc etc etc. I also prefer Ed's folksy side (off he goes) to his mid tempo epics (lbc, gone) any day. Give the man an acoustic I say! It brings out the best in him. Hand the electric guitars to Stone and Mike ;) And for Gods' sakes, would SOMEBODY give Jeff a bass guitar? I'd love to hear him playing on an album again :)

    Creative and branched out?

cropduster- a piece of crap, one of their worst songs

Cropduster is a brilliantly written song with beautiful guitar parts. I'd like to know what your favorite songs are on Avocado.

WWS, Army Reserve, Inside Job. Stuff with a rhythm. Something I can groove to. Not that halting, jerking, crap they keep peddling as artsy time signatures. The end of Cropduster isn't bad, once they just start jamming on the coda.

I can't think of a song more crappy than WWS. And Army Reserve has different time signatures too. You can "groove" just as much to that song as you can to Cropduster. That's okay though. Lots of people prefer their music generic.

Please, lets not be so negative about Pearl Jam just to make a point because you dont agree with each others opinions.

Can you really not think of a song worse than WWS? Theres no rap song, Britney Spears Song, or S Club 7 song thats worse then that? Maybe you dont like it up to Pearl Jams terms that you have. But I think the song has a good intro, good lyrics, good chorus, good solo, I like the song a lot.

I'm 99.9% sure the comment was meant to imply that there's not a worse Pearl Jam song than WWS. The song is OK. About a 6.5 out of 10.

Tell you what, grab a video camera and try any sort of dancing to cropduster. You can't even bob your head in time to that song. Maybe if you're big on air guitar, but even then...

But that's ok, lots of people prefer their music pretentiously unlistenable... especially white dudes way too cool and self conscious to ever be caught dead ENJOYING a show by moving.

I disagree. Riot Act IS a bad album. If it had been released by any other band, I'd have sold it long ago, but I'm sentimental about my PJ cd's I guess. Aside from All or None, nothing on that album stands with their best work.

    Riot Act
    s/t
Ten... I was going to put Binaural, but, despite having many of their best songs, Ten has never worked as an album for me for some reason. Binaural has its misses, but that album is so tied to my senior year of hs I can't help but remember it fondly.

Riot Act IS NOT a bad album........see how that works :D

Overall I think it is a great album, very underappreciated. This is by far some of their most creative and branched out work (can't keep, cropduster, half full, arc). The songs are great individually (LBC, I am mine, all or none). The only error I see on this album is Bushleaguer

I would have to say the only album that sits a notch below the rest is self titled. As an album it is still very strong, but no one song stands out.

All or None is a fucking great song! Maybe Im just partial to Benny Hall cause I cant remember the last time I popped a studio version into the CD player besides Avocado in 06'. I am Mine is great as well. Cant keep in Columbia was awesome to see live also...

Last Exit... now THERE is a great 3 minute raging rocker! They haven't written a tune like that in years.

I disagree. I think it's important to know what people like and don't like. I don't like Riot Act, I don't think it's their best work in my own opinion. I don't think we are being negitive towards PJ either, they can't make brilliant albums all the time.

Let's be honest, if we all liked the same stuff, the world would be a boring place. We would all like Britney Spears and Pop Idol stuff and other stuff the media shoves down our throats.

Just because people don't like Ten, Riot Act, Avocado, No Code or Rudebox, other people may think they are genius, apart from Rudebox, that clearly sucked.
    :D Rock on!!!! :D
Seen Pearl Jam 4 times in London, once in Manchester, as well as an Eddie show at Hammersmith.

this is way too hard of a question. I know i would rank Riot Act at the bottom but i wouldn't be able to decide on anything else

Very good point about Avacado. I agree with this person. Being that Down, Undone, and Otherside were left off Riot Act it would be great to hear what was cut from Avacado
