This is my favorite Screaming Trees song! I've been listening to this song over and over again for the past week and a half. Never see any talk about these guys but I love them and Mark Lanegan. Especially love his work with QOTSA. Just wondering how evervone else feels about this song or band.

I hear you dude, BIG Screaming Trees and Lanegan fan here. Watchpocket Blues is an awesome tune too, very 70s-ish. IMO, the Trees are the most underrated band of the 90s. They're right up there with Pearl Jam and Soundgarden to me in terms of talent. It's a shame they never got the recognition they deserved, at least from my perspective. Although I'm glad Lanegan still continues to put out excellent quality music. Everything he touches seems to turn to gold....

I agree, Screaming Trees are very overlooked and underrated. I personally love 'Dust' as an album. Lanegan's solo stuff is great, along with everything else he gets his hands into..

I'll second that. I only recently caught on to Lanegan, but the two Screaming Trees albums I have are the best "grunge" albums I've heard outside Pearl Jam. They even top AIC for me.

I'm a huge Trees fan but I pretty much love anything Lanegan does. His solo stuff, GT, all the other collaborations..... There is just something about him. He can turn a simple song into the most chilling thing you have ever heard and sing something else that is absolutly beautiful. The man will never get the recognition he deserves.

Totally agree, your thoughts sum mine up exactly. His upper register is particularly chilling. Resurrection Song is a perfect example of taking a simple song and making it brilliant with utterly soulful vocals. He's without a doubt one of my all-time favorite singers.

I can't wait to hear what he does on the new Soulsavers album. I think I have just about everything the Trees ever did in the studio...speaking of which, Lanegan covered his own song, Kingdom of Rain, on the last Soulsavers album. If he were to do another cover of his own on the new Soulsavers album, I'd LOVE to hear him redo 'Grey Diamond Desert' by the Trees. That is one of the first songs where he really displayed his raw talent - great, great jam.

EDIT: Wow what a coincidence; just got some new Soulsavers info (just a little taste). The new album is apparently title "Broken" and will be released on August 17th.

Not to take anything away from his solo work, but that version from the Soulsavers album blows the original away. So good.

I agree. I'm not usually a fan of artists covering their own songs but he did indeed to a phenomenal job with that one.

The Screaming Trees are simply amazing. All there albums are solid and all bring out a piece of the band. Lanegan is probably my favorite singer, and the man knows how to write songs. I can't wait for a new Gutter Twins album.

It's weird but that was always the song, the only song, on Whiskey for the Holy Ghost I ever skipped over. When I heard it on the Soulsavers album it blew me away. It's probably one of my favorite songs now. From the interviews I have read, that was not Lanegan's idea to cover it. The rest of the band are really the ones that wanted to do it.
