Firefighters are trying to control a blaze that erupted from an explosion at an oil refinery along the Delaware River.

Around 10 p.m., Sunday evening neighbors in the Marcus Hook area began report hearing explosions from the refinery and claimed they could see smoke in the sky.

Since the refinery is along the Pennsylvania, Delaware border, firefighter crews from both New Castle and Delaware Counties are working to extinguish the flames.

Delaware state officials confirm that the fire is contained to the Delaware side of the border and no evacuations have been made in Marcus Hook.

An EPA report says the frontage of the refinery extends approximately 4,800 feet along the northern banks of the Delaware River. The facility is bordered by industrial land use and commercial/residential properties

There is no word on what caused the explosions.

There have been no reports of any injuries involved with this incident.

I saw this on the news this morning. Crazy. Hopefully they will get things under control before they have to evacuate.

I saw this on the news this morning too. They said the fire was under control and they're testing the air quality. I think they said everyone got out of the refinery ok. Apparently you could hear the explosions all the way in gloucester county. Hope everyone is ok.

Hope all goes well with this. Along I-15 in the Salt Lake area there are numbers of refineries, so this is something I've seen happen plenty of times...it's always scary, especially when it's a large explosion and endangers surrounding communities and neighborhoods. Not to mention that the sky ends up looking like armageddon.
