My Thoughts on the Xmas Single

Yeah, I probably shouldn't have made a new topic but oh well...

I love it. Simply put, I love it. I've loved this band for a long time, but hearing these two songs reminded me why. I haven't been SUPER into the band in just over a year, but I like how Eddie has adjusted his voice, and the direction the music is taking. [If you can even judge it from this]

I know someone will make a comment, even if it's not out loud, about people loving everything this band puts out without a thought of your own, so for them, I don't always like Eddie's tone on his acoustic guitar. So take that pessimists.

Really though, I do hope the next album has some continuation of this/ the Into the Wild feel. It would probably make it my favorite of their catalog. Who knows. :)

Honestly I have only listened to each song once and I am not a big fan of Santa Cruz, sounds so much like something off Prairie Wind by Neil Young, maybe it is a grower. Golden State on the other hand is phenomenal. Still, I am just pumped that is new music from the band, cannot wait for more later on this year. :D

Is it the same version he played live in Santa Cruz last April? Because I've had that one for months.

This might be an unpopular opinion ... but I like the Ed solo version of Santa Cruz from Santa Cruz better than the full band version.

It's not that it's bad or anything. I just like the original better.

i think ed acknowledges this with the line about listening to neil young in the car.

Really though, I do hope the next album has some continuation of this/ the Into the Wild feel. It would probably make it my favorite of their catalog. Who knows. :)

I would be very happy if the next album sounded more like this. Give me a more Neil Young sound, something laid back and groovy. I'll take that any day over another group of half-baked punk crap like Comatose.

I dig Santa Cruz... reminds me of No Code/Yield.
  • Is it me or does the begining of Santa Cruz sound like Becks begining of "Bogusflow" in which was supposedly a shot at PJ?

Auch. Got mine yesterday. I was thumbs up giving it a try with my turntable...Had to pull it off before the end...Just a lame piece of work that a-side...I mean "Santa Cruz" sounds very cool in the first place if you know the context. But...and what...and why can't Eddie let Stone do more songs...? I mean he's better in so many more ways than Ed; Stone writes good riffs, good chord progressions and good melodies. While Ed is kinda same all the way.

But still gotta admit I liked "into the wild" pretty much. But that sounds so EASY. It seems that with PJ Eddie nowadays tries too hard to be Eddie (or something).

Just my opinion. Please do not take offense. Been a fan since 1993. A big fan one could say =)
