I enjoyed this tour. It was my first multiple show tour. I saw the show before this one in Portland, and the show after this one in Seattle.

Great tour but i liked the 2006 tour better.
  • In my opinion, '03 & '06 were both better.

    Agree.
From a "Best Form" and "Best Fan\Crowd Experience", i'd have to give a nod to 2003.

I think 2006 shines for its setlists, but just a bit below 2003 in terms of actual form of performances.

I can't realy explain it, because PJ certainly have lost much of that early 90's grungy spunk.... the raw energy is way down ...

but as a fan in the audience, i just think something magic happened between the stage and the crowd starting in 2003 ... maybe the band finaly pushing through their negative vibes as a solid unit (mikes personal demons, eddies relationships, all of their baggage with rokskilde) ... and realy just getting to the task on stage!

    :D
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?
  • Even though i only saw one show on this tour but i would have to agree that it has beeen the best tour i've seen.

  • This was their best tour ever. If you weren't there....don't even try to argue the point.

lol, how can this topic be anything other than just different opinions? Everyone will have an opinion about which tour was best, whether they were there or not. Nobody is right and nobody is wrong when it comes to conversations like this.

Ignoring the fact that i saw them in '06 and '07, i've listened to as many bootlegs as i can from every tour, and the band sounds tightest in '94, '96 and '06, in my opinion.

In terms of fan participation, i don't think '03 and '06 can be beaten. Although Milano '00 gives every show a run for its money just because of how loud the audience is during songs.

I think Ed sounded best during the euro tour of '00 and anytime in '06.

the best tours IMO were from 00 and 06. the energy was amazing in 06, but i think the setlists werent as good as they used to be. although the 05 american tour had some great setlists.
    5/28/06, 6/27/08, 10/28/09, 5/18/10, 5/21/10
    8/7/08, 6/9/09

How can you say that? There is no definitive answer. It's a matter of opinion.

    94....

In terms of highest quotient of legendary shows, you might be right.

That spring run included the Boston show where the road crew wrote the setlist, the NYC Ten Club show, Rock for Choice benefit in Pensacola, SNL appearance, Atlanta FM broadcast, and even playing Dock of the Bay with Steve Cropper. I think most of those things happened within the span of six weeks.

    .
    Memphis 1994
    New Orleans 1995
    Fort Lauderdale 1996
    Atlanta & Birmingham 1998
    New Orleans 2000
    Tampa 2003
    Kissimmee 2004
    New York City (x 2) 2008
    East Troy (x 2) 2011
    Chicago & New Orleans 2013
    Hampton, Raleigh, Boston 2016
    Baltimore 2020
    Louisville 2022
    Philadelphia & Baltimore 2024
  • I gotta go with 2000. Saw em in 98, 05, 06, but those 2000 shows were just magic. Especially the Euro shows (though the Seattle 2 and Boise shows were damn fine too). I kinda feel like the setlist will surprise me anytime I see them, so I've always judged the shows on the passion....and 2000 had it.

I gotta go with 2000 to... missed them on that tour but , god dang... I remember watching tb2k over and over and over again... i think that dvd had everything to do with me becoming such a freak :P
  • Holy crap tough call. Obviously every tour has pros and cons. Personally I quite enjoy the the newer material... plus I like what they do with some of the older songs now (with extra tags, sweet jams on RVM, etc). I think the band lately has been tighter overall than ever before. The energy from '94, and some of the '98 shows on some level will never again be matched. However, the shows on more recent tours are more varied because of having more material. Mind you, the '06 tour saw less variation I thought than even the '05 tour... The Gorge in '06 versus '05 even. (Gorge '06=tighter shows though.) Overall I like the addition of Boom.. though I miss the faster In My Tree. Ed's voice I think sounds better than it used to in the 90s. Matt Cameron is one of my all-time favourite drummers, so no complaints there. Jack Irons kicks a lot of ass too in his own way... not as tight though. I think Matt and Jeff are locked in a really good grove now in a way I can't quite explain. I don't think the rhythm section has ever sounded so good. I like a lot of the 2000 and 2003 setlists.
    05/30/03 Van, 09/01/05 Gorge, 09/02/05 Van, 09/04/05 Cal, 09/05/05 Ed, 09/07/05 S'toon, 09/08/05 'Peg, 07/22&23/06 Gorge, 06/14/08 'Roo, 08/08/09 Cal, 09/21/11 Cal, 09/23/11 Ed, 12/02/13 Cal

These are all very good points, personally i think 05 was the best with 06 close behind

  • Yeah, met him about 10:30 that morning at their hotel. He's a great, humble spirit. I feel like it's one of the few actual good stories I have to tell.
    05/30/03 Van, 09/01/05 Gorge, 09/02/05 Van, 09/04/05 Cal, 09/05/05 Ed, 09/07/05 S'toon, 09/08/05 'Peg, 07/22&23/06 Gorge, 06/14/08 'Roo, 08/08/09 Cal, 09/21/11 Cal, 09/23/11 Ed, 12/02/13 Cal
  • I hope they don't become too refined as time goes on. I can't think of many specific examples... one would be (speaking of RVM jams) is the baseline that Jeff always goes into now (which originates from around the Ottawa show, or thereabouts, on the '05 tour)... rather than just kinda being more loose. Not that those jams still don't have a lot of intensity, it just makes for a more guided, slightly more confined jam, in my mind at least. Whereas say on the 2000 tour, they seemed slightly more experimental overall.

Personally I'd be glad to see the returns (and/or continuation) of these songs (in other words, i'm getting reeeeaaaaaaaallly bored with Betterman, DTE, etc.): Tremor Christ, Sometimes, Nothing As It Seems, Of the Girl, Sleight Of Hand, Light Years, Thin Air, In My Tree, Last Exit, Nothingman, Cropduster, Can't Keep, even Grievance.
